• Computer for college

Having been out of the tech game for a while now, I have absolutely no idea what to look for in a computer anymore. Lemme throw down some basic specs First off my budget is about 700, lets say 800 absolute max I want a computer that will work well for... college stuff? I think thats easy enough. I would also like it to be able todo some moderate gaming, if possible. Source games, stalker, you know stuff like that. maybe just cause 2 also but not on max settings of course. I guess reasonable battery life is also a key. Thanks for any rec's guys
Do you want a laptop or a desktop? Just double checking, you make no reference to either apart from you want 'reasonable battery life', so I'm assuming a Laptop?
If size is an issue you could get a Shuttle PC and a graphics card.
Well I had a similar question a while back and recently bough an Asus G74SX-A1 Laptop which is a really good gaming laptop but the only problems that I can see so far is it is pretty heavy and the battery life isn't that great. There are newer models out(Asus G75+G55) though that fixes some problems and upgrades some of the parts. In my opinion, I think it was worth my money considering it was a stock built laptop.
for college you really dont want a "gaming" laptop itll just be heavy, large, and have poor battery life and heat performance get something lightweight, but powerful enough to suit your needs
This would probably be good laptop for around 700. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230236
Try get an APU based lappy.
Apologies for not responding my friends. I lost track of the thread due to lack of search function
for college you really dont want a "gaming" laptop itll just be heavy, large, and have poor battery life and heat performance get something lightweight, but powerful enough to suit your needs
I dont really want a gaming laptop, just something that can play them. well i mean.... well i dont know what i mean lmao
This would probably be good laptop for around 700. Any second opinions?
uh funny story..... my mom wants to buy through bestbuy because she doesn't believe the 3 year warrenty thing online or whatever. something like that. I can't follow her flawed logic at all, so i HAVE to buy it from bestbuy..... http://www.bestbuy.com/
Get her on skype and I'll explain it to her until she understands it. [editline]3rd June 2012[/editline] Here, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+K53SD-DS51+15.6%22+LED+Notebook+-+Intel+Core+i5+i5-2450M+2.50+GHz+-+Mocha/4875245.p?id=1218560752321&skuId=4875245 its practically the same laptop and still meets your budget.

The three you mentioned aren't particularly demanding, and the benchmarked games at the bottom of the page are more demanding than those three, even at detail settings low - so I imagine they'll run fine, on Medium settings at least. I'd still try and get it somewhere other than Best Buy. Shitty site.
I wish i could but my mom is telling me i have to. It's impossible to try to convince her.... Ive been trying
Tell her The Google says she's wrong. That should be a language she understands.
best buy isn't an awful place to buy from, the worst part is the limited selection most of their consumer electronics are fairly priced (not including all cables) it's just actually finding something that's the problem. and they carry a lot of the shitty HPs However if I may present an alternative http://www.cowboom.com/Computers/Laptops-Notebooks I purchased an ASUS K53TA from Cowboom and it has been working reliably since the day I bought it. Just make sure the laptop comes with an AC adapter and is condition 8 or higher
If you're heading to college, you probably don't want to bring along a gaming computer. Stick with a moderately priced lightweight laptop so you'll get out and be social.

[editline]4th June 2012[/editline] Does asus have like... a 3 year warranty with next day service and accidental damage coverage? or can you get that through bestbuy?
