• Quicktime Pro Converting AVI files?

I now know that quicktime is able to convert things at a much better quality with this "M4V" format than pretty much any MP4 that I've used. Trouble is, is that it simple does not play AVI files. And apple aren't bothered to help out with codecs and neither is anyone simply going to give an actual codec to do it. If anyone knows what to do here, please enlighten me. Thanks. [editline]24th October 2011[/editline] okay, since none of you bothered to help me I got the video to work with 3ivX but the audio isn't working. :D
If you want to play the .avi file use VLC: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ If you want to convert it use Handbreak or MPEG Streamclip: http://handbrake.fr/ or http://www.squared5.com/
I do know how to play them and convert them using other things. But apparently quicktime has the ability to put out "M4V" files which are the best quality to view on an ipod or psp. The thing is, it's so slow that I think I'll just give up this method.
