It's not that cut and dry because Pokemon doesn't have a single narrative. Blizzard has said multiple times that WoW is the follow-up to Warcraft 3, which makes sense because it continues the stories and events afterwards. It's not a sequel in the literal sense that it is called Warcraft 4, but it definitely was intended to be one. Any Warcraft 4 we get at this point (if we get one; I'm sure Blizzard is fine with Starcraft 2 ruling the RTS roost) would be released with atleast a partial nod to WoW.
WC4 would have to be a prequel, otherwise Blizzard would have to make an ending for their biggest cash cow.

Blizzard doesn't do C&D's for mods on their games.
If someone wanted to do a Warcraft source mod they would probably send one.

Why would you use those shitty models from 2004?
Although I guess they'd be ok depending on camera distance.
The main reason why those models get ripped is because its pretty damn challenging to introduce new models into the SC2 engine.
Blizzard has gotten so lazy in the years. It kind of sucks. If they were like they were 10 years ago they would have made a DOTA game already.

Nah, it won't. Blizzard has a habbit of allowing games making their other games as long as it's on their own engine.
It's why the Cease and desisted the generals starcraft mod but did not C&D the starcraft mod for warcraft 3.

Activision did take action against the World of Starcraft mod, but I think that ended up being resolved somewhat.
That was because the suits got pissy because in the future they might want to milk the shit out of the franchise make a starcraft MMO.

Yeah, Blizzard's lawyers issued a C&D and requested a meeting with the modders. Blizzard just told them to change the name since the have trademarks on World of Starcraft and that was the end of it.

That's a [I]half-life 2[/I] mod using [I]half-life 2 [/I]assets and code. Obviously valve didn't think their way through making a game where you control units indirectly. So much that DotA 2 forced the team to do a complete overhaul of the engine. It's even hard to call it source, since a lot of things like the player/npc physics we're used to don't even exist in it, replaced by a system that fits their purpose, handling creep and hero movement indirectly for a MOBA. On the other hand, cs:go which is their latest FPS is pretty much L4D2 with cascaded shadows. They didn't have to overhaul the engine since it's the same kind of game as Half-Life 2.
Still, you're taking this too seriously. The guy that said about making a WC3 mod for DotA 2 was making a joke. [del]It would be impossible since DotA 2 is built from ground up to be a MOBA where you control a single unit[/del], and valve doesn't exactly allow modders to tinker with game code anymore.

I got lost in the above striken statement, I meant to say DotA 2 had the whole player/npc system replaced by a unit system that fits a MOBA where you own one unit plus any extra spawned units (owned only by you) or heroes from players that left (shared units). True, you could add various units to the player's control but not just with a map. There are no entities in place to let players spawn and control units that are not part of their standard set (Hero + summons) or extra "Hero" AIs other than what's possible with cheats, severely limiting the range of controllable units. And also there's only four types of structures that do nothing, the towers being an exception and the ancient only serving to trigger the end of the game. My bad.
Valve is working on an SDK for Dota 2, Half Life 2 wars is made with the Alien Swarm SDK.
