My model is the [b]iPod Touch 2G[/b] loaded with firmware version [b]2.1 (5F135)[/b]. Now, I want to jailbreak it. I found this tutorial on another forum and I started doing it:

However, then comes step 5. Here's where the problems start. As 2.1 was preloaded on my iPod Touch (I bought it recently) I don't have the file they mention in the tutorial. Now my question is, [b]can I use 2.1.1 instead?[/b]

By 2g he means second generation.
I will look around for some tutorials and such, but I can't promise anything.
I think the 2.1.1 has fixed the exploit, I've heard something like this
Maybe, but I don't have 2.1.1, I have 2.1.0 :)
The exploit currently used doesn't exist in the new (second generation) iPod Touch. At this moment there is no jailbreak method for this device.
I did see something about a manual way to jailbreak it, instead of using iPwn. Is there really no way?
I have to ask, what are the profits of jailbreaking?

Sorry to bump, but I have to answer this.
Well, for one - if you are a programmer, or just looking for something cool, then this will help-

I can control, and use my computer keyboard on my ipod. This helps if you use your ipod to text, program, or just perhaps mess around.
Also, notice my theme? You can change all that too. Also, notice the status bar - it shows the weather! My other changes since then is changing the battery and wifi meters into numbers instead of those images, so it's more precise.
I have 5 icons on the bottom row instead of 4.
Weather icon changes to correct weather.
MobileTerminal is also on there.
I can completely access the file system.
And that's all that I have messed with personally, that makes the ipod better in my opinion. And all that was only on the first page.
