I've got a 8600GT. Since about a week, I started to have graphical glitches or artifacts in Modern Warfare 2, Cod4 (Note : Only these games cause it) So I installed RivaTuner, guess what I got ?

That's right, 101°C motherfucker ! It got to 103 last day. I tried to lower the graphical Options, changing resolution, nothing. Functioning at so high temperatures are never good at long term. I was wondering from where it could come from ? It is idling a 64°
- The fan is working. Not much dust.
- Could RivaTuner say shit ? The sensor might be fucked up.
- Is it due to the card ?
- Pretty good cooling, normally. My proc, mobo and such don't get that high, even while playing source games or Crysis.
What is happening ?
Video cards routinely get quite warm. The 8 series specifically tended to be a bit warm. That's not really a bad temp for that card.
100C+ is the danger zone, of course it's a bad temp
OP how old is it, maybe it needs new thermal paste
My 8800GT began getting very, very hot and very noisy after about two years. So I bought myself a new card.

Thermal paste on a graphic card ?
2 years and a half old though

Yes, didn't you know?

yes, between the GPU and heatsink...
It could be a mix of things.
Is the inside of your case caked in dust?
Is your cable management now shoddy after a new update?
Did you install one of nVidia's latest drivers? (Usually I find they are pretty solid, but there was a driver release recently that fucked the fan speeds, so you may have that).
Is there anything you can see preventing the fan spinning as it should?
If the answer is "no" to all of the above, dust your case out anyway (including the 8800's heatsink) and if that doesn't work, it could either be the thermal paste or the card simply worn itself to shit.
Thermal paste has been found on graphics cards for years - basically if it has a cooling fan on it, it has thermal paste somewhere. The new GTX480 is caked in the stuff.

Hum... no.
I counted the use of the "word" cake, 25 times this far.
Also.. if you still got your warranty, I would suggest to turn it in..
Wohoo, 110°
It'll die soon :D
Wo, what do I do ? I remove the "box", the fan and I put thermal paste, right ?
Make sure the vents opening into your PC aren't clogged. My vents get clogged before much dust collects in the case.
