Help; Shortcuts and .reg files no longer associated!
11 replies, posted
Guys, seriously need some help here.
When I install a programme, it goes well. Then I click the shortcut, and get this message:
The item "whatever.exe" that this shortcut refers to has been changed or removed, so the shortcut no longer works properly. Want to delete it?
Y/N
So, I look around, and discover my shortcuts are no longer associated.
I download a registry fix (.reg file), and try to merge, and get this:
This file does not have a programme associated with it to perfrom this function. Create an association in the Set Association control panel.
Dear lord help me facepunch. ;-;
Right click a .reg file > Properties > click Change... button > Browse... > "<WindowsDirectory>\regedit.exe"
That should fix your registry problem.
The other one I haven't got a clue about.

Fantastic, thanks.
Just need shortcuts now. -.-
Did you check the path for the shortcut to make sure it's pointing at the right .exe?
I get this:

The only problem I see is that the 'Start in:' field is empty. Try filling that out and see if it works.
its not mandatory to fill out that field..
Try for yourself if you don't believe me...

Ah, I just assumed. Never tried a shortcut without it filled in.
he is probably missing the shellexecute command in the registry.
the link I posted in my first post should fix that.

I ran the reg file, and from what I can tell, it works.
But I have a quick question guys:
Is it ok to move a shortcut from the desktop to another folder, or should I create a new shortcut in the desired folder?
Thanks
nope, move it around whatever you want.
just don't move the path in the shortcut (The actually file the shortcut is referring too)
