Upgrading my laptop processor... and I need opinions..

I have an HP dv8000 with an AMD Turion64 ML-34, as seen below:

My questions have been marked in Bold.
I have been looking on this page about my upgrade possibilities, and I'm not sure what the differences are between the ML Turions and the MT Turions?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Turion_microprocessors
From what I can tell by that page, there's only lower voltage consumption and 10 watt less power draw. This laptop is always plugged in, so battery life is irrelevant (as long as I can move the laptop moving from room to room without it dying on me).
I want to know if upgrading to an ML-44 would be the best choice, to get the most out of this laptop. It has 2GB of RAM, and ATi Radeon Xpress 200M. Windows 7 runs like a dream. Will I see a huge performance jump going from a ML-34 to an ML-44? It lags on simple things like unpacking 7zip archives, making it unusable until the extractions are complete. I mostly use this thing for Firefox, Photoshop, and an occasional ISO burn.
Does the ML-44 sound like my best bet? Money is not a problem, I'm not going for "cheap" I'm going for "best for long-term"
Curious, though is it actually possible to replace the CPU in that laptop? Aren't they normally soldered right to the board in laptops?
that laptop can have its CPU upgraded.

but I have no idea if there will be a significant performance boost.
Why bother upgrading the processor in that dinosaur? The chances are (unless you get the CPU for free) you'll end up spending more on the CPU than what that thing is worth.

Never seen one soldered on. Mine is upgradable, it's a socket 754.

I got the laptop for free. A CPU upgrade won't break me.
Still seemingly pointless. You can get a As-Is used processor off say ebay or craigslist. Or you can go and buy a new one and spend a bundle. I know on one of my old boxes (Circa 2003), a new CPU will run me about $300+.
Well I am looking for a used one first. This "dinosaur" alptop is replacing my desktop temporarily here at home, since I can't have my desktop hooked up due to my current living conditions. I just need to spend a few extra bucks to get this thing quicker.
wait, is this laptop the HP you "found"?
Yes. Yes it is.
lol, well since it was "free" I guess upgrading it would be worth it.
Totally worth it. :keke:
