Hey, I was playing some Left4Dead 2 nd I BSOD'd, at first it was stuttering alot at random times, I just thought it was lag, then later I BSOD'd, I thought it was no big deal so I went to bed, then I woke up and now anything that removely uses my Nvidia card at all BSOD's. I did a clean install of Win 7 but that didn't do anything. It works in safemode but anything that uses Nvidia kills my PC I get the error 0x00000116, with three files causing the problem, dxgkrnl.sys, dxgmms1.sys and nvlddmkm.sys. It is definately something to do with my card. But I dunno if its hardware related or driver related, I reinstalled the current drivers and that did nothing So I am guessing it is a hardware error.
When was the last time you updated DirectX and your graphics card drivers? When was the last time you cleaned your computer? Try doing these things.
I updated them in safe mode and the errors still persisted.
delete your NVidia Drivers completely (that includes running Driver Sweeper to remove the old version of nvlddmkm.sys from your system), then reinstall the drivers. If the error still persists, try using the following guide: in command prompt, navigate to C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\xxx.xx (highest number there if you have multiple folders)\WinVista (it may be slightly different depending on your OS)\English (or your language)\ run the command:
expand.exe nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys
then copy the new nvlddmkm.sys file to your C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder.
It worked for basic things again, but then when I tried to run Left4Dead 2, then menu worked fine but as soon as a game loaded it crashed. Now when I log in it just crashes, and I can only run in safe mode.
