• Random freezes during boot and start up or even in windows

Not to long ago I installed 4gb of corsair ddr2 800 corsair (2x2gb) after I installed the ram I got these random freeze ups at any point between the mobo logo and the windows login (and in some cases a few minutes after I login) eventually the problem went away some how, I'm not sure how. Well now I did a clean install of windows 7 x64 over the drive that had windows 7 RC x64 running on it. With the new install the old freezing problem came back and this time it keeps getting worse to where it almost always it freezes at the mobo logo screen. And even if I get to windows 7 it will say windows did not shut down properly then I try to "restore" and it freezes while doing that. Or if I can get to windows 7 again I will try starting normally but either freezes while I login or it says "problem starting C:\program files (x86)\NOS\bin\getPlus_Helper.dll The specified module could not be found." then i press okay and it goes to desktop and then freezes. I have tried switching around the dimms but to no avail and I have tried numerous bios settings non of which have solved the problem (usually if I can get into bios it stays unfrozen till I restart) I should also note that I have dual boo right now with XP x32 When I try to start up with that it gets to desktop and half loads the task bar then freezes. Specs of the rig in question: asus p5ne sli intel core 2 duo 2.66 2x geforce 8600 gt in sli 4gb corsair ddr2 800 cas 5 600watt rosewill performance power 1 wd 160gb(has win 7 x64) 1wd 250gb(has XP x32)
Sounds like faulty ram to me.
Well I have determined through process of elimination that it is indeed one of the two dimms I bought over new years. so sent in an rma to corsair and they want to me to update my bios and run memtest86 for each dimm. but I could use some advice with updating the BIOS, I have the newest files from ASUS but I don't have a floppy drive and updating the the OS sounds even more risky so how do I use a USB drive to flash it? btw I used my friends account for the OP
