I remember playing the demo of it. Found it a bit dull, to be honest.
3 million copies to break even sounds like an internal development problem because that's a shitload of copies.
It wasn't even all that good. I can't see how they spend that much money on it.
Had they put some kind of coop in it and made it less repetitive, it might have sold better.
They took out some kind of stupid loan from the city of road island in a effort to make new jobs if they setup an office there. Now that the game didnt sell very well they cant pay back that 7 million or something.
I found Amalur to be pretty entertaining. I had pre-ordered it, and don't regret it.
I did enjoy this game, but there really should have been more to it. The side quests weren't really enough to bring me back to it. I just couldn't get into it, not like I could get into Skyrim.
snip
Put it with Unusual TF2 Hats on Summer sales on steam. problem solved.
i enjoyed amalur, quite sad situation to the devs.
That is really a lot of copies.
Anyways I wanted to buy this game but for a full price it does not seem to entertain me that long. Perhaps when the price drops, I will get it.
Also during dialogues your character looks like a retarded fuck.
the dev team has been liquidated, no amount of sales will save them now
shit man, that sounds painful
Don't make the game easy and repetitive and people might buy it.
3mil to break even for a noname studio is absolutelz and completely insane. To the level it's not even funny.
You need a fairly strong name to grab these kinds of sales.
Was a good game. Not replayable enough due to the point exploit I found and managed to go full spec on every talent tree. My fault I guess though, not theirs.
I didn't even buy it. I borrowed it from a friend who didn't like it. Why? After EA pulled that stunt with Battlefield 3 having to "Buy a pass" to fucking play online instead of being able to rent it and try it out first, I was pissed. Honestly kind of a dick move, but hey, I'm not some corporate bigwig who makes millions of dollars. I can't think like one.
In any case, They made a pretty good game In spite of being such a small-name studio. The story was pretty well thought out, and I didn't see any gaping plot-holes anywhere, not to mention hunting down all the Legendary sets was kinda fun. I agree the combat was repetitive though, I would just wait about a minute and a half and cast that Wrath AoE spell and it would pretty much destroy anything. Being able to string combos was cool too, because of the way the attack system was I came up with a lot of effective ones.

This. I would burst out into laughter during serious conversations because of it.
It's a pretty entertaining game if you stick mainly to the story/faction quests. Unlike the MMO-like side quests, the different chained stories are actually really interesting to me.
Everything else about the game may be pretty stale, but I think they did a good job on that part at least.
Put the game up on sale during Steam Summer Sale. Everyone will buy it out of pity. 38 Games somehow comes back.
I don't think many gamers can afford to buy games out of pity. They would just watch an LP of it instead.
