• Steam tries to update and I get an error about "needing to be online" despite the obvious.

Well I made some research, and someone mentioned the registry on another forum. open the registry by executing regedit, go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Valve" then expand the tree, you'll find a folder called Steam, click on it. There's a key called "Offline", if it's set to 0 then the problem isn't here, but if it's set to 1 change the value to 0 and try again.

I've sent this problem to Steam Support.
Ok, it finally updated and it's working now Thanks for the help.
