When watching horror movies, what scares you the most/surprises? I find it creepy with unexpected gore and old houses with creaking doors. And probably a bunch of other stuff i can't remember right now. You know what to do now.
nothing. movies dont hurt you, killers that sneak into your house while you are watching them do.
tension/suspence
Atmosphere. OCCASIONALLY it is creepy to have a human form contorting and/or moving in a jerky manner in a way that is totally unnatural for a human body. 'The Grudge' did this well. Also, the hospital scene toward the end of 'Jacob's Ladder' is a good example of how to create a creepy atmosphere the right way, which is why Silent Hill and so many other horror-genre movies and games totally copied it. Jacob's Ladder is a great movie.
Generally i find it more scary when you don't see whatever is out there stalking or killing people. Seeing shadows, silhouettes and stuff is good and makes it very creepy and very scary. But as soon as you see the killer it just stops being scary in my mind. [editline]08:33PM[/editline] Yeah Jacob's ladder is great.
I hate when they're trying to hide from the murder (specially if the movie is realistic), and the murder then find one or few of them, and cut their throat. Throat-cuttings! :ohdear:
The scariest thing is the fact that the blood cannot look more fake
That people pay MONEY to see them. 90% of the horror movies I've seen, and I've seen quite a few, have been shit. Especially the overly violent kind. I prefer a cleaner but more suspenseful thrill.
the part when something/someone jumps out.
The sense of hopelessness that comes with seeing the desperation of the protaganists. This is especially true for zombie movies.

I hate gory/torture movies, fake blood splattering everywhere, that's more disgusting than scary. Though japanese horrors(ex.:The grudge) creep me out.

When the characters find an egg in their refrigerator, threatening to rip their intestines out. That scares the fuck out of me.
I like a scary movie that's ending is totally the opposite of what you thought up. Not the smojoe were it's, omg THEY GOT HIM YHAYAAYAYA. Only for him to come back and end their lives.
that's so much like the begging of Silent Hill: Homecoming
As I said, SH was HEAVILY inspired by Jacob's Ladder.
Horror that isn't just gore, or someone killing everyone off. Oh whoopty fucking doo there's so many god damn movies like that right you're so fucking original. Seriously. Talking about Halloween 2. I like it when the horror isn't just some killer. Unless he's actually scary like on Wolf Creek.
