Apparently much improved over the older models, the i7 2600k which is around £250 scored higher in tests than the older i7 980x which was like £800.
Gon' get me one of dees!
Is it true that these report you for pirating movies?
Or am I being lied to?
There's an entire thread for this:
http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1035073-Intel-Sandy-Bridge-Why-you-should-wait-one-month-for-a-new-PC!
And it's been going on for quite a while now.
is it worth me upgrading from a i7 920?
when i bought this computer i said shit i just wasted 2000 on something i didn't really need so?
Considering you will need a new motherboard, probably not worth it.
Woops missed the thread r8 l8 m8 etc...

Nope, for these reasons:
-The performance per core, per watt and per dollar is better than a 980x.
-You can get to 4 GHz on AIR. USING THE STOCK COOLER.
-Even the lower end 2400 spanks the older i7s
I guess I will wait for the new new ones then.
Built in DRM. Riiiiight. How can I trust Intel if they pull off shit like this?
This and paid license to over clock your own processor, and denying x64 license to anyone but AMD so Nvidia cant enter the processor game. This is content control gentlemen.

Can you back up that claim with a unbiased source?

Yes but he already owns an i7. Surely that's powerful enough to at least him for a whole new line of CPUs.

A processor that is capable of detecting which video file is pirated, and is able to send a report to the authorities on its own?
Yeah right.
if there's any hardware DRM, it will be patched, like AnyDVD stripping DVDs and Blu-rays of protections like CCS, BD+, and HDCP.

Completely agree. Most people stay on their CPU for at least 2 sometimes 3 generations. 1 generation is not enough to warrant a switch.
I'm still on a Pentium 4, and not by choice. Ran into financial trouble starting in 2008, so my dream corei7 machine's been put off again and again... -_-
Yeah, I'm still running an AMD dual core and I just recently considered building a new pc with an i7, but now I'm going to wait for SB.
You cant overlock the sandy bridges that good since it has an integrated gpu which would be overclocked as well frying your entire pc depends how much you overclock though because the more you overclock it the more likely the integrated gpu will die and so the cpu etc
I'm not an over-clocker, i just spend money on a higher-clocked chip. I never spend more than $300 on a good, strong CPU. $300 is ALWAYS my CPU budget, so I get a powerful chip and it's definitely worth it. and encoding x.264 movies is very CPU/GPU intensive, so it's not good for me to be a cheapskate...
It doesn't even make sense to overclock the new preprocessors of today at all also with and i5 760 and and HD5770 i can run anything at max without any lag without it being overclocked.

Have you not seen any reviews?
4.4-5+ GHz on air isn't good?
You totally ignored anything i said i didn't said anything about 4.4-5+GHZ on air, i said that you don't have to overclock at all anymore since the performance is very good.
There's 2 kinds of people on this planet:
Pussies, and people who overclock.
Ok , thanks for the information.

Are you high?

I think he's referring to overclocking with the FSB, which you can't. But you can use the multiplier, yes.

I tried overclocking my AMD X2 subtly, and even the smallest overclocks caused source games to play weird, it was like I had my rates set really low even though they were fine.

Finally someone who understands me.
