• Is four case mounted fans overkill?

Ive had my PC for about 6 years now I have 4 case fans 2 in the front 1 on the side 1 in the back but this is NOT counting the fans on the CPU, the GPU, and the 500 watt power supply this makes a total of 7 spinning blades annoying everyone in the house Heres my specs: ASUS P5S800-VM Motherboard Pentium 4 Processor Northwood Microarchitecture at 3.4 GHz (Overclocked by 30% 3.30 GHz) 1 TB Seagate Baracuda Hard Drive 2 GB of Ram (Kingston) ATI Radeon 4650 HD (AGP version) Creative Sound Blaster Live Audagy SE Windows 7 Home Premium i installed the extra fans because I was overclocking the CPU and i didnt want it to melt the PC is on at least 12 hours a day so my question is do i really need 4 fans for this rig? EDIT: i just opened it up and disconneted all the case fans the one in the back with the busted blade is the loudest of the case fans and the one on the left in the front is making a clicking sound while the gpu fan is making a high frequency electric pinging sound the CPU fan occasionally make a wobbiling spinning sound like its off center EDIT: i took the thing apart completley dust was everywhere when i was finished dusting each individual component I wiped off the thermal compund from the CPU and added a fresh coat then re assembled it and it ran a bit quieter (my windows experience was also boosted from a 3.9 to a 4.7 :D)
the more u have fans the cooler it stays. I have 5 fans in my computer
the more u have fans the cooler it stays. I have 5 fans in my computer
No. The better airflow the cooler it stays, and judging on OP's loud fans he probably spent $5 on each of them, meaning they don't do diddley dick differense.

Good fans are silent. I have an Antec 900 and it came with 4 fans, and you can barely hear the PC at all, with all funs running. Of course I keep them on minimum setting but

That sounds like an excessive number of fans considering your rig. Can you give us any more information on your case?

Make sure they're all going in the correct direction, too. Back should be out, rest should be in. The side panel you might want to make out if it's too near your CPU HSF so it's not blowing the air onto the fan negating its usefulness. [editline]29th January 2011[/editline] Also, please do some cable management. That will improve temps a lot as well.
you can never have too much of anything when it comes to computers. and porn.
Wow. You got some serious problems with cables. Manage them. Also, Post temperatures with HWMonitor or something like that. It would be nice to know how hot or cold your PC is.

That is cool. Really cool. My HD4650 idles at 50C.
If one of the casefans are hooked up as SYSFAN, 2400RPM is way too much if you want a silent build. Get some of these fans Swap out the fans in your case with these quiet fans, and then activate the Cool'N'Quiet (AMD) / Q-Fan (Intel) function to make your CPU's fan more quiet. Hook them up this way;
