• What graphics card and where?

Ok, i plan on treating myself to a new Graphics card very soon, and i was wondering what's the best graphics card in a price range of 215$ max. And where is a good place to get it (if website Reliable, good customer service, within price range) Im looking for the best possible Graphics on my studio slim, so it must fit/be relatively small. My Current Graphics Card is an Integrated (Shit) Chip. Specs: Duo Core @ 2.66 GHz 2.67 Ghz/ 4 GB Ram/ 64 Bit OS.
Where do you live? [editline]11:31AM[/editline] Also, the wattage on your power supply?
Massachusettes. 450W I believe.
4870 1gb $150 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102825
Two Things, how would i adjust fan speed if i get that, and is it small?
I personally don't have the card myself, but it should fit in most cases, and you can adjust the fan speed with CCC
Thanks, seems like a nice card, ill check it out, any other cards to compare? The Studio slim is a relatively thin case which worries me.
If its a slim case then you wont be able to put any kind of mid-high end graphics in it. So that 4870 up there wont fit.
There's no way you can fit a 4870 into this Does it even have a PCI-E slot
It has 16X PCI Express, so yes.
It has 16X PCI Express, so yes.
It still wont fit you need a new case.
Ok, so my brother is going off to college in August, so hes getting a macbook, which leaves his old case open for grabs. Would i be able to swap cases? He has a bigger case that would fit a new graphics card, hold on ill get his specs when hes awake. Sorry guys, im very new to this, first upgrade.
Take a pic of his case so we can see it to reassure you it will work.
You won't be able to get your computer in his case, since Dell uses proprietary motherboards. I'd go for a 4670, since it's pretty small.
Wait why? He has a dell aswell. [editline]11:43AM[/editline] Thats his. I would be taking out the RAM, Hard Drive, Processor. Right? [editline]11:43AM[/editline] Thank you guys.
It still wont fit you need a new case.
care to explain why the card will flip but vtx's can hold pci-e cards
Whats a VTX, what do you mean card will flip?
The case is too thin. About half of the card will fit into it.
Thor, The E520 case or the Slim?
It isn't a big deal sacrificing performance over a silly case. Take the comp out of the case, or just cut the case so it fits.
Im a noob, so i dont know what to do, like wouldnt that expose the internals to dust?
Still need help.
Dell computers are known to sometimes not use standard sizing used by most other computers. Because of this sometimes the shape of Graphics Cards wont allow them to fit, like how your current case is too slim. The case your going to switch it to though should fit it, which is what the posters above are debating. Take the comp out of the case, or just cut the case so it fits.
You could do this with a card designed like this so its mostly protected. as opposed to a more exposed design like this He means cut a square/rectangular hole in the side of the case so the card will fit(but stick out)
What would i use to cut it, and would i be taking out the internals before? And is it possible to move the processor, RAM and Hard drive?
The side of my case is always open, and I have a cat. I haven't noticed a drop in temps since I got the computer, in early April.
What card do you have?
What would i use to cut it, and would i be taking out the internals before? Im not sure specifically though, you'd probably have to just mostly Wing-it.
That whole answer is to the first question right? Ok that sounds good. Then i wouldnt have to move anything else.
Hard drive you can usually move, but the processor and RAM are stuck where they are.
I think im just gonna take off the side panel.
