I take it you didn't read past the overly sensationalist title?
So basically, they've figured out how to modify a program without android realizing it?
Woow. Hackers found an exploit. How shocking. I don't think it is harmful for anyone who uses only the app market, unless someone has physical access to phone or can hijack it's wi-fi connection and redirect app store to third party site.
This will only take 3 years to fix because Manufacturers are cunts and don't update devices.

You can get android build updates directly from google last I checked.

And this is why Android needs PC style standardization, but it won't happen because it will hurt the manufacturers pockets.

When exactly did you check, because that has never been the case on Android since it was created except for Google's Nexus devices, some of which still don't actually get builds from Google due to carrier meddling.
Reminds me of that time where someone discovered that the texting app was also a command line, so when he tried texting "reboot" to someone, his phone rebooted :v:

You can get unofficial builds built from the open-source version of Android.

Well maybe it's because I have a galaxy nexus then.

And what about all the 100's of cheap shitty Samsung Galaxy variants carriers throw at people on cheap Contracts?
