I've got nothing against people disliking mac or apple if they have a good reason, but I'm getting tired of all these ignorant fucks going around spreading shit about it and rating everyone that uses OS X dumb.
So I thought like this: Every time you see a person post a screenshot of their mac in the desktop thread or just talk good about mac in general, rate them heart!
I know it's not gonna change anything but it'd be nice to see some love from the small amount of apple people here, and not having to worry about getting spammed dumbs just because you like something different.
Good or bad idea?
I don't want to see us as a bloc of fanboys with this as our prime motivation - what would mean a lot more to me would be if this forum was a lot more active.
Hell, though, have a heart and share the love.
(actually, I don't give either)
tbh I really don't give a fuck
Enjoy your 2000$ laptop. Could've gotten the same specs, software (fuck, even free) and Windows for less than 900$

You know what, I think I will. I don't mind paying a bit more for a computer that looks nice, and a GUI experience far superior to anything windows had, or ever will have to offer.
At least I can put the $ at the right end of the number....
Also, my MacBook Pro cost me £863, not $2000.

This man is right, it's not only the parts you are paying for but the whole experience.

IMO having a shiny interface and sleek GUI should be the last thing you're concerned with. Both Windows and OSX get the job done.
I guess it all has to do with what you are planning to do with your computer. For example, my OS decision process went something like this:
What is the best API for gaming?
Direct X
Can Windows use Direct X?
Yes
Can Mac's use Direct X?
No
And thus, my OS of choice was decided. I was actually planning on buying an mac just for Final Cut Pro, but i do more gaming than video editing.
And you can argue all you want, Macs DO cost more than similar PC's. It's not an opinion, it's a fact. It's almost as if Apple is a brand, and like designer jeans you have to pay more for it.

The super-long life on Macbook Pro's ARE really cool though. Possibly worth the extra cost.
Anyone who owns a mac is a tool.

I have been using Macs since I was 3. That's 15 years of my life only owning Macs, I just recently got my first PC about 2 months ago.

I can absolutely agree with that if you play games go with windows. That is nothing but logical. But I've had 2 Windows laptops and my current MacBook pro. The mac just feels better, the way it's built so it works perfectly with the OS, the multitouch trackpad and the extremely robust aluminium.
I used to dislike apple, and I don't like their old products (as in till the iPhone was released)
But they have really reinvented themselves and their products to the better.
And the recent explosion in users shows that, and don't be stupid saying people are dumb that uses apple products just because you're an ignorant fuck that dislike them for stupid reasons.
I got a Macbook pro (13") for christmas and I love it. Even thought I installed win7 on it and some games (mw2 and l4d2) I keep going back to use OSX. I still prefer my windows desktop pc though.

Windows is best for games and server stuff. As OS X is specialized on other stuff, it's only logical that it does it better. It's a more modern OS, but windows is still needed for a normal computer user.

Sorry to derail but I have a question (there should be a sticky "NEW MAC USERS ASK QUESTIONS HERE" thread :P): Is there a way to map the mac to a windows drive? I mean, in windows I just right click on "Computer", choose "Map network drive" and type the IP/computer name and it's done. I do the same with the mac (going to finder and connect to server) and it doesn't find anything. The folders I want are shared already.
[editline]05:22PM[/editline]
Also, what app can I use to be able to use the iSight on msn? aMSN gives me a 9405 error (ive googled, says something about forwarding a port, that didnt work). Also, aMSN looks ugly as hell, there has to be another program :P
I started disliking Macs ever since their marketing started to bash Windows, rather than tell users why Macs are a good computer.

You probably need to set the workgroup for the mac. You can do this in WINS in the advanced pane of Network Preferences.
You have two options, Theres Messenger:Mac from Microsoft, that supports webcam, or, if you're willing to sacrifice webcam support for an awesome UI, Adium is the way to go, you can pretty much do what you want to it. I'll post pics in the morning.

I bought my MacBook for school, as a supplement to my windows machine, that I use for gaming, for me it wasn't a question of gaming, or finding the cheapest possible solution, I was looking for the best solution. I bought a beautifully designed computer with a battery that comfortably lasts for the whole school day, on a decent brightness, with everything running, not some stripped down netbook with a 10" dimly lit display and a microscopic keyboard.
And actually, I've found that the little touches in OS X, like exposé with 3 and 4 finger gestures massively improves productivity, working with lots of different applications is easy, even on the relatively small display. My windows machine has 2 20" displays, so I can just spread applications out across the desktop, on a laptop that isn't really an option, so having exposé is a massive time saver.
I firmly believe that when you pay extra for an Apple computer, you're paying for the design time and attention to detail that goes into them. For example, show me any other 13" laptop that has a 3.5mm headphone jack, line in, and optical audio in/out in the same port? Or a laptop chassis that is precision machined from a solid block of aircraft grade aluminium. Yeah it costs a bit more, but you receive it knowing that it has been lovingly put together and looked after.

Arguably, OpenGL is the best API for gaming; it supports more than just Windows. But DirectX is the most commonly used unfortunately.

Ha. Hahahaha.
Linux distributions have long been used as server operating systems, and have risen to prominence in that area; Netcraft reported in September 2006 that eight of the ten most reliable internet hosting companies ran Linux distributions on their web servers.[56] (As of June 2008, Linux distributions represented five of ten, FreeBSD three of ten, and Microsoft two of ten.[57])
...
In September 2008 Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer admitted that 60% of web-servers run Linux versus 40% that run Windows Server.[69]
Listen to this man. It's the whole experience that makes i so much better not just the inside hardware.
My favourite touch on my Macbook is how if the laptop screen is on, the power light goes off, and if the screen is off, the light comes on, but the brightness of the power light is still related to the ambient lighting of the room. It's a stupidly tiny irrelevant detail that I love for being so useless and yet so awesome.

I think the sleep light pattern is pretty awesome, oh and how it's invisible when it's not on because it's just a light behind a very thin area of aluminium.
My MacBook has still to arrive, but I can't see why anyone would prefer Windows for anything other than playing games.
As far as appearance goes, Windows can be as horribly ugly (especially when you have to use programs designed in the 90s, which don't at all integrate into the aero environment).
I just got the new mac today. 27"
That's big. Looks like a fuckin' cinema on my desk.
Came with a horny touchscreen mouse thing and wireless keyboard which is also horny.

I'm not sure if the extra $500 is worth the Apple Logo on the laptop.

That mouse is complete and utter shite. I had the displeasure of using it a few times and it's pretty much a middle finger to everyone who likes to grasp their mouse with their hand and fingers in order to get a precise level of control. It feels fucking horrible in the hand, even worse than the old mouse, which felt like a plasticky piece of shit with no ergonomic design whatsoever, but at least had some fucking shape to hold on to. The scrolling is quite nice though, despite posing no practical advantage over a simple scroll wheel.

Exactly. These nice little features are not worth the huge price premium over a comparable windows PC, especially since they offer greater expandability and support for many, many more programs.

I've never had problems with finding the programs I need. I'd rather have one or two good programs for something than having loads of shit programs and a few good ones. 90% of all software I've used I've had a better experience with than on windows.
And seeing as apple has THE highes user satisfaction only shows that their products are better than another with the same specs.
I don't really care what people use, but when people don't know shit and keep talking about it like the know apples products even tough they never use them is plain stupid.
It's like a person that have never played ps3 would be talking shit about it because all they know is what they've heard.

There will be a program for every task you can on Windows, it may not be the same program that is on Windows, but there will be a program for it.
