7Mb Down / 384kb Up
Is that speed ok for broadband to play popular online games without lags?
Atm I have wireless internet and it lags about 100-500 Ping
SO i play with that usually.
So is 7Mb Down / 384kb Up ok for games?
Yeah those are fine for games. Where do you live and where are the severs your playing on are located. And wireless is known to lag.
Well I live in Ireland/Dublin
And I play in UK servers usually.

If you're gaming, always be plugged in via ethernet (wireless will give you a whole new world of problems). Otherwise, the rates are fine.
I would really recommend to go with ethernet... wireless can be a big pain with gaming.
Upload is short.
Thats good enough.
I am on a 3mbps line and wireless and my ping is really good.
Wireless isn't awful, though if you are doing file transfers to other PCs on the network, you will want the Ethernet.

I'm on wireless, I'm fine running games.
TF2 doesn't lag at all. My upload is shit, but I don't see myself uploading a 50gb folder anytime soon.
lucky, you get nice pings, Whenever I play I get 300 ping, I hate Australia!
You'll be fine. Most people do fine with far less (shitty DSL service). But, as mentioned, go with an Ethernet connection between your computer and the router if you can, wireless is an unreliable pain in the ass.

Play on Australian servers.
If you're a gaming client then it should be alright, but if you're going to host servers, no.

Yeah, if I could find some with people actually playing and good maps.

Not that bad. I've been using wi-fi for a while now and it's never been near that bad.
Lol at the people saying wireless is bad for gaming. If you're having problems with it you are a minority, wireless is just as reliable as ethernet and is faster in some cases. (Wireless N = 300 MBPS, Ethernet = 10 MPBS, FastE = 100 MBPS. There is a GigE that runs 1000 MBPS but I highly doubt you've got a GigE card)
I've been running wireless for a year now. 10 months of that was with my pc having only 15% - 20% connection. And a 30% - 50% link quality. Then 2 months ago I set up a spare router as a repeater. My signal strength is now 70% - 80% and my link quality is between 95% - 100%.
I've never had a problem with playing games. On US servers I get 90-120MS ping ( very playable, but you're about 1/10th of a second behind the server. Keep in mind other players usually have between 20-40MS ping. so they've only got about about half a millisecond less lag than you ) , on European it spans between 40MS and 60MS.
just a hint, you can join a 20 man CSS server and run fine on anything that can handle 5-10KB/s Up and 15-20KB/s down speed simultaneously. I'm on 8Mbps and my connection can handle 800KB/s down, while uploading at 5-10KB/s.
My standard speed limits are
Down: 900KB/s - 1.2MB/s
Up: 50-60KB/s
Telcos don't want to give you fast internet while most customers are easily satisfied with ADSL and don't feel like they're being ripped off.
ok guys. I connected that internet. Here is my speeds.

You shouldn't have any lag with that connection.
Latency, ping and lag are totally different things...

Aren't latency and ping the same thing? :raise:
Unless you're being sarcastic.

I hope he is, ping and latency are the same thing.
As for lag. That is different since it can be caused by connection, or hardware.

When used to define time used to get data from one computer to another, those words are synonyms, save maybe for lag, as it is usually used to name the effect bad pings give in games.
