Are there any special tools I need to build a computer or can I just use the screwdrivers I pull out of my tool box? Also, are there any other things I need to have at hand, such as a can of compressed air?
A phillips head screw driver, that's it.
Okay. Thanks.
If you haven't already bought the parts, do tell us what you plan to get so we can offer constructive criticisms.
I'm still looking for places to get parts. I'm using a case from a computer I had that conked, so I need to clean it out first. Any good places to get parts? Ive got a $600-$1000 budget.
What country do you live in? I'd assume you're in the US or Canada since you use the dollar, so Newegg.

depends on the country
just tell us where you are, what your budget is and what parts you can reuse
what case specifically

Yeah, if it's from a prebuilt, then it might use a weird motherboard format so you wouldn't be able to use it.
I don't know the case reapaninja, and the budget is $600 - $1000. I don't think I have any parts I can reuse because the hard drive I have is too small (50gb yea its old). None of the parts are up to par for what I want to do. Unfortunatley. Country = USA. They don't make the case anymore, and I can't check what it is right now.

I'm removing the motherboard altogether. I'm going to start from scratch, so I don't need to worry about the motherboard type. All I remember is that it is an HP.

the problem is the case might not fit other motherboards
On your budget, we can give you a new case easy. Do you need a keyboard, mouse of monitor?
Oh. Didn't know that. My bad. I'll post it asap

I foun out I have 3 to work with so I have some flexibility. A Dell optiplex gx520, Dell dimension 4550, and the aforementioned hp m7060n. I will use the hp tho.

I have a USB keyboard and mouse but no monitor

Update: My dad is funding this and he changed his estimate to about $400. I don't think that gets me near as good quality tho.
It would be hard to fit a monitor into a $400 budget. A monitor is in itself $100. A computer costing $300 would be pretty much just a general use computer, so if you're into gaming, it would suck ass.
Tell him to raise it more towards $700 if you want to play games.
-snip- I have a hundred for a grand total of 500. I keep posting little sections because I switched to my iPod touch cause I have become busy doing things. Sorry bout that.
yea a monitor is gonna be around 100 bucks
K. Then I have 400 to work with.
Wait, do you have a copy of Windows? Or are you going to use Linux? Fitting a copy of Windows in there knocks it back down to $300 which will be integrated graphics.
Good point darkness. I think I have a copy of windows lying around, tho.
