There's also the issue of expansions tending to appeal to those already invested in the game. "If you imagine mapping our expansion model onto Call of Duty, and what kind of impact that would have… what if when Call of Duty Ghosts came out, it was only relevant to you if you had beaten [all the others]. You would imagine that the market for that game would decline. So we have to do a better job of getting people into the new content when we release a new expansion.
I think that is the main problem with the game. Too much accessibility. And now they want to make it more accessible? Just no...
a lot of games have been significantly dumbed down to appeal to a mainstream audience, and i believe that wow suffers from the same affliction - by making it so stupidly easy to accomplish, well, anything in the game, they've taken the fun out of playing what's the point of building a massive world if i can simply teleport across it?
Put it back to BC and Wotlk. Yes levelling up was fucking shit, but it was that levelling system that kept me playing. I had time to finish all the quests in an area, read the lore, do some dungeons then go explore other level appropriate areas for extra quests just to get to the next zone. The zone ahead was practically suicide otherwise, and trying to pick off one or two mobs that were higher was a fun challenge also. I mean it felt like I was achieving something, now I level faster than I can do quests if I do a couple of dungeons and stats feel wonky at low levels. I still remember I used to on all my toons go to Auberdine at level 15 just to grab the +2 Stam +2 Int Shucking Gloves from that Fishing quest and those gloves would still be on me until level 20-25 depending on gear drops which seemed to be a lot less common.

His point is that expansion content is almost always endgame stuff that requires you to work through all the previous expansions to reach. WoW's accessibility is why it's so popular; a big part of why WotLK saw the highest amount of subscriber growth was because heroic dungeons were made easier and raiding had a smoother prep path. Hell even back in the days of vanilla the game was made to be accessible compared to other MMO's; the fact that you had quest lines to level was a much more on rails and easier way to reach harder content than the sandbox games of the time. Your inability to acknowledge them doesn't mean that it's easy to accomplish "anything in the game".

Honestly, I'd probably still be stuck playing WoW if Blizzard has a fucking clue about what made arenas and PvP in general fun. But now, I'm done for good.
