• Hard drive just went insane?

Ok I was about to enjoy some top gear on my PS3 (I stream video to it from my computer) and find that none of the videos will play. That's weird, so I go on the computer and made sure sharing was still set up, it was. So I guess i'll just watch it on the computer, the video won't open. So after testing several things I've found the problem (but not the cause). The HDD is going blisteringly slow, we are talking 32.8KB/sec max! (so it will take me 132 days 21 hours to copy everything over to back it up) I can browse the folders on the HDD and junk like that but I can't open anything or use any program that was installed on that HDD (due to the speed?) This is the second HDD where all pictures music and about 25% of the programs are on but thankfully it isn't the OS HDD - just tried error checking and it says it can't do it because the drive is currently in use? Any idea what's going on? HDD about to fail? If so is there some other way to back it up? Please help.
Find out what the disk usage is.
8.65GB of 149GB so it is almost full but it is mostly music/pics/vids. but could that be slowing it down? I know that the main OS drive gets that full it does but i didn't think it would have that much of an impact on a mainly storage drive. [editline]06:15AM[/editline] the backup transfer speed sucks but the copy-paste speed is slightly better, a still slow speed of 2.17mb/s ok cleared it to 15.3GB of 149GB with no effect on speed, nothing else that can be deleted.
Back er' up bitch and get a new drive.

I copied what I needed to my external HDD and that took 16hrs due to a copy speed of 2mb/s. Ordered 2 WesternDigital 750GBs off newegg for $49.99 each (Black friday special) and windows 7. HDD is still 'working' atm but I feel it isn't long for this world.
defrag
chkdsk/f into command prompt [editline]07:36PM[/editline] see if that does something
