If I recall correctly when you enter your passcode it stores for 15 minutes, meaning that for the next 15 minutes anything the kid attempted to purchase (including in-app purchases) would of gone through without a problem.
I sort of hoped they wouldn't.

Still, 90% of apps these days have micro-transactions, especially games that children would play, like Angry birds Space for example(you pay for eagles or something).
