So I've recently landed myself a job and decided to finally replace my ageing laptop with a decent computer I can use for gaming, 3d modelling and programming. With the help of a few friends I made a list of parts for a ~AU$2000 build that would last me for a while and be fairly upgradable. I came up with the following:
Case CoolerMaster CM 690 Pure Black
CPU Intel Core i5 750
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P
GPU PowerColor Radeon HD5850 1GB
RAM OCZ PC3-10666 Platinum 2x2GB OCZ3P1333LV4GK
HDD Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB WD6401AALS
Optical Drive Samsung SH-S223B DVDRW OEM
PSU Corsair HX-750 Power Supply
Monitor Samsung P2250 21.5in Widescreen LCD Monitor
Keyboard Logitech Wave Keyboard
Mouse Logitech MX Revolution
OS Windows 7 Home Premium OEM
Now I ask you, the experienced PC builders and hardware enthusiasts of Facepucnh, is this a solid build, or do I need to go back to the drawing board on this one?
Looks all good, but you might want to go for a slightly bigger monitor.
Well I'm not a big fan of huge monitors, and going any bigger than this increases the price significantly. Besides, the monitor I chose runs at 1080p and has seen good reviews all round.
EDIT
Sorry, I seem to have come of as a bit of a prick there, any advice is good advice, so keep it coming.
How often do you do 3D modelling? If the time spent on that usually outweighs the time spent on gaming, you might want to go with an i7-920 instead.
I don't do much rendering though, which is usually the processor intensive bit of 3d modelling, most of my models are used in programming related tasks.
Also, I heard Photoshop CS4 has issues running on Windows 7, has anyone else heard of anything to do with this?
Same core as Vista, so yes, CS4 will work.
You could save some money by switching to a 600w psu you really dont need 750w

You might want to look at a 1960 by 1200 monitor because of your graphics card choice.

Thanks, that'll save me some money, and if I need XP Mode I can always buy an upgrade pack for Windows 7 to get professional.

Well It just seemed like a good idea because I hope to run CrossFireX and a HDTV Tuner at some point and I wasn't sure how much power that would require.

I think 1920*1080 will do me fine as well as ensuring that I can run games maxed out due to the low resolution. Also, I don't know if you can get a 22" monitor with that resolution and I'm not sure I'd be that into using a larger monitor (my current comp is 1280*800 on a 15" screen, the previous was 1024*768). I'm just not really used to big monitors, and anyway I can always upgrade in the future and keep my 22" as a secondary monitor.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
EDIT
Has anyone here used the MX Revolution and/or Wave Keyboard? I just wanted to get opinions on them.

You should still be able to max them at the higher res.
