I'm buying a new CPU, but I have no idea what to get.

Alright so, I'm planning on replacing my old CPU with something better and for a reasonable price for gaming. Here are my system specs.
Radeon 6570 HD 1GB
2GB DDR2 RAM (i'm also adding more)
AMD Athlon 3800+ Dual Core
My motherboard type is a
ASUSTek Computer INC. NODUSM3 (Socket AM2 )
I don't know what kind of CPU is compatible with my computer, or if there is anything else I should consider or know about when buying one.
You'd be much better off if you saved up and built a new rig.
I'd rather just upgrade the parts for this machine. I wouldn't even know how to build a new PC.

The only hard thing to do is fuck up.
Facepunch can choose the parts for you. All you would have to do is put it together, stick windows on it and bam, done.

Your PC is so old, everything needs upgrading badly.
What would I need for building a new PC? Can I just buy a new motherboard and use the same case?
Yep, you could get a new mobo and salvage the case and/or the hard drive (provided it has plenty of space) and the optical drive. All we'd need is your maximum budget and we'll set you up.
Anywhere from $200 and $300 is all I can afford right now.
All you need to get is a motherboard, CPU, RAM and maybe a better graphics card.
$300 is enough for that
What do you think about this motherboard?

it has a free 2x4GB memory with purchase too
Go for it. Grab [url=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116775]this[/url] too.
The rest of the money can go towards a better graphics card.
I guess I can order these over the weekend. Is this mobo difficult to install or is it just simply screwing it in? I assume I can still use my graphics card on the new mobo while I look for a better one right?
Your old graphics card will still work.

You can still use it, but it's the only thing that will need upgrading next.
Even without upgrading it, it will be a HUGE step up from the 3800+
A new CPU would require a new motherboard, new motherboards have a new socket on both CPU & RAM. The GPU is fine though.
Also, get a i3 or a i5.

Look 4-5 posts up from yours.
Is the mobo difficult to set up though?

Not at all. There's pretty much only one place to put everything.
Just make sure you have standoffs, that's it.
Yeah, you're going to need standoffs.
They come with the motherboard though. No worries, OP.

Uh, standoffs are in the case.

You're 100% right on that. I confused myself and thought standoffs were motherboard-specific, but it's the other way around. Every case has different sized standoffs, and some cases even have them built in.
My bad :v:
Well they'd be there from the previous mobo so the worst scenario would be he has to move some to fit the board hole placement.
I think I might just end up buying an entirely new PC because I don't feel comfortable putting all this together, I found one off newegg that would come to the same price as all these parts.

The CPU looks pretty good and it uses DDR3 ram. I could always just add more RAM when I get Christmas money and replace the video card with my Radeon 6570.
That acer is complete shit. It will be demolished by the build.

Seriously, It is so hard to mess up building a PC.
[editline]23rd November 2012[/editline]
Not only that, your GPU wouldn't fit. Even if it did, the PSU would barely be able to power it.
Damn, I guess I'll be ordering the parts tomorrow i'm just worried of fucking up. I know how to put a video card and ram in but not a CPU or a motherboard.
Dude, don't be. Just don't rush, be calm, follow the instructions and you will be fine.
[editline]23rd November 2012[/editline]
Just a second though. Before you order the parts, can you take a picture of the back of your case?
[editline]23rd November 2012[/editline]
just to make sure the board you're getting will fit.
yeah sure, hold on

It's quite big and a little blurry, sorry about that
Could you try take a photo of the lower half?
[editline]23rd November 2012[/editline]
It's nothing small that needs to be seen, just how large the case is.
I had to use my brothers phone since I can't send pics but the mobo takes up the entire rest of the lower half.
How many expansion slots are on the case?
4 or 7?
