• Speakers Making a High Pitch Noise?

So this morning I woke up to an odd sound, I don't really know how to describe it because I don't think I've heard something like it before. The source of the sound was apparently my speakers and they were making this odd sequence of sounds. I turned off the speakers and left for work. I come home, turn on the speakers and notice they are making a high pitch whine. They do this no matter what, the computer can be off, the speakers can be unplugged, and playing sound through them seems fine, it just still has the whine in the background. I've had these speakers for a very long time, they were from a prebuilt my parents had, A Dell XPS 410 series. the speakers themselves are Dellk WL6000 5.1 Surround 5.8ghz. They have to be at least 5 or 6 years old. They've been reliable up until this point. Are they dying? Can I fix it? (is it worth fixing on my own)
It could be failing capacitors or some other component. If they still make the tone while being unplugged from the computer or plugged into another device then it's most likely some internal failing component. You can try taking the master speaker apart (the one with all of the knobs) which should have most if not all of the audio logic in it. Sometimes the subwoofer may have some logic in it as well (if there is one.)
