Activision touts its own "proprietary server-side anti-cheat technology" to work alongside the Valve anti-cheat system
Yeah, because two anticheating programs running at the same time is definitely going to end well.
I can understand a game like cod holding back on mod tools but the anti-cheat thing seems over-kill.

Hello there Punkbuster.
They had mods in bo1 but it wasn't really good, very limited to what you could do so honestly I don't blame them
But honestly 2 anti cheat systems sound like a recipe for disaster
Uh, MW1 style mods? Servers that were separate from "ranked" or whateverthefuck?
Why would they allow mod support? I mean that star wars mod for CoD 4 totally did not sell more copies of the game.
(this was sarcasm guys I remember people buying Call of Duty 4 just to play that and it looks pretty sweet)

That's what bo1 did but it was very limited. Also rental servers in bo1 sucked cause you had to rent it from one place and you really couldn't do anything with it.
On a high note though, this ends all the 24/7 nuketown servers PC players got bombarded with. I guess that's good

Having paid DLC and mods like map editors doesn't work well because people replicate them
I can understand lack of mod support (some people made shit like texture based wallhacks for TF2. They patched that out but for things like gmod and stuff it still works AFAIK. Not saying COD = TF2 but the concept is basically the same.), but no server renting?
That seems like they are cutting out a bit of profits IMO...
Wasn't planning on buying it anyway. Maybe renting it for the xbox, maybe. But that's it.
No mods is typical of a AAA FPS released these days.
No server rentals is certainly weird, have to see how it works out when the game actually releases, but one benefit I can think of is no 24/7 hardcore Nuketown tactical crouch only no snipers no LMG servers filling up my browser.
Does this mean once they kill their servers the game is permanently dead or what? [del]Maybe EA will make an exception and let it live longer than a few months.[/del] I'm dumb

EA?
I'm sorry but what?

I don't think it'll be any worse than just punkbuster. VAC will ban hackers, and punkbuster will generally mess things up.
EA?

oh shit I'm tired
wow
Huh....... well ok
honestly i prefer having no server modding on cod, i fucking hate the constant nuketown map servers or the "lol crouchtac 2000x xp zombi3s no scrubs allowed" servers
Or those servers that are all sniper or they disallow a gun cause the Admins thing they're OP but In reality they suck
Aw man, that'll suck so bad.
Let's take a moment of silence and remember all of the good mods from Black Ops 1.
....

Its as if you pressed control+c and then control+v for that joke.
Fucks sake just use VAC and give us the ability to vote kick people. in MW3 pretty much everyone wanted the hacker off the server.

no, black ops 2 is actually different this go around. still dunno if that means it'll be good or bad, though.
you're thinking of FIFA 13 for Wii
I fucking hate Activision to death for this. I loved and still do love WaW because they gave us Mod Tools AND Radiant. Now we get nothing?
Whilst I'll miss nuketown 24/7 (my pc loads black ops like a fucking snail, and nuketown was the only map to load within about 2-3 minutes, hence I played it more than the others).
I will gladly miss some of the over the top mods some servers employed. Heck I once joined a server where you got banned for sprinting. When I got warned for it and asked why, the owner said "Because you're not allowed to sprint unless you're under fire" then he got into a debacle with me over how the server rules only appeared every 15 minutes server-time, and not when new users joined.
Basically ended with me getting banned for failing to follow rules.
My wallet won't support Black Ops 2.
CoD4 had some pretty decent mods, people would have played it for even longer if custom maps didn't force servers to become unranked. Because nobody wanted to play on unranked servers.
Well they had to do something wrong eventually.
You act like they didn't fuck up when they announced it.

Yeah, different as in different setting and look?
Just because everything looks like it's from the future and the thing's set in the future doesn't mean it's not different.
There aren't many differences between Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4, even though they're 60 years apart in terms of setting/look.
I don't get why everyone's saying it's different, it's not, it's always the same.
