It was an old dungeon crawler, entirely text based. It had a very bad UI and the game was reliant on the direction you were facing. Does anyone have any idea what it was called?

I feel like helping you. How old would you say this game is? Did you play it on any specific sites? Newgrounds, Armorgames, etc?
It wasn't zork, it had buttons where you clicked like north, west, etc and that kind of stuff. I can't remember the site i played on as its been a few years since i played it. It had 0 graphics and was just text and buttons.
Was it dungeonman off the Homestar Runner website?

Nope. It had no sound at all and a very windows 98 type interface.

By text based I mean there was no graphics, but thee was buttons like attack, move etc etc
