• Is it my PSU or my GPU?

Alright so I keep having this weird problem that randomly my computer just freezes completely and I have to turn it off and reboot. The thing is, this corrupts my GPU drivers and usually my GPU will stop working for a while but then, out of nowhere it works again. This has been going on for a few months, the weird thing is, my GPU will work fine for a few days or weeks, then out of nowhere it breaks again. I dont know if its my power supply or if its my GPU. my PSU is Antec 550w and my GPU is Nvidia 460GTX. There are no errors or crash reports or anything at all. Edit: Also, it gets to the starting windows screen, the black one not the blue one, right after its done loading the screen goes completely black and I have to restart, this happens until my card decides to stop being difficult and works.
550W is Fine for just the 460GTX But have you tried running the PC without the card? Or deleting drivers for the GPU and re installing fresh?

I ran the pc with the card still connected but I was using my on board graphics, intel 3000 HD, and it would sometimes crash the same way it would with my GPU. Like right now its working, I dont know how long it will last.
Are you running 64 or 32 bit?
Are you running 64 or 32 bit?
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit Its kind of a first world problem because I can send it out to asus since its still under warrenty, but then I will miss the GW2 weekend, and if I play the weekend and send it out after my card probably wont come back in time for Diablo 3.
Don't you just hate when that happens? If it's under warranty i would for sure get it fixed asap! Did you let windows do the driver update or did you get it off the Nvidia website?
Don't you just hate when that happens? If it's under warranty i would for sure get it fixed asap! Did you let windows do the driver update or did you get it off the Nvidia website?
I got it off the Nvidia website. Heres a weird thing. I just bought a new monitor and it came yesterday http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=24-236-176&nm_mc=EMCA-042012&cm_mmc=EMCA-042012-_-ASC-_-Item-_-24-236-176 Now when I use this one, I cant get past the black starting windows screen. If I use my old one, I cant find the exact one but its as good as http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SyncMaster-712N-17-inch-Monitor/dp/B00025EKO0/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335366284&sr=8-1-fkmr0 It usually works, not all the time, but usually does. I had my GPU working with my new monitor until I played CS:GO, then it broke. CS:GO Assassins Creed Revelations(this did it the first time, first the screen went but I could hear sound then the sound went about 10 seconds later.) When Revelations broke it my computer couldnt even start up and had 2 beeps which was my GPU, then I got the TDR_VIDEO_ERROR crap for about a week and then Jesus felt bad for my GPU and brought it back like a Christmas miracle. and Skyrim have all broken my GPU. The weird thing is, sometimes I can play those games for weeks with no problems. Im just going to send it out tomorrow. Sweet jesus Intel HD 3000 is a minimum for GW2, so I can enjoy the beta.
Sounds like you put a lot of work on the GPU by playing all them games and it's just slowly shitting out on you. Happened with my Nvidia 6200 it worked and then DOTS everywhere, started crashing and then just one day quit!
The thing im most worried about is it will get to asus, work, and they send the same right back.
Ok so this is weird. I removed my GPU but my computer is still crashing how it would with the GPU. Windows loads and everything but randomly it will crash hours later. Heres the weird part. Ok so I was watching a youtube video when it froze, it just completly freezes my computer and cant move my mouse or do anything. When I held down my power button, for a second or 2 it unfroze and the youtube video kept playing then my computer obviously shut down. So does this sound more like a driver issue or a hardware issue?
Do a memtest.
Do a memtest.
Did that already, ran for 8 passes, no problem.
8 passes isn't enough, run it for 24 hours. Some problems with RAM won't start rearing up until the RAM has been stressed for long enough. If it still doesn't show any errors, then replace the PSU.
I really doubt this is the issue but: Check your temps just to be sure.

Im going to guess im stressing out my on board intel 3000 HD chip and running it out of memory and thats causing the crashing. It always crashes if I have like 3 streams and 5 1080p youtube videos loading or playing a game not meant for the card like CS:GO.
its not the psu, i know this much.
Unless you have a commercial grade PSU tester (or an oscilloscope calibrated properly) then you can't rule out the PSU being bad. But, i kept left and right clicking and it took it out of it being frozen, then I checked my tabs and saw that the stream I was watching went offline as soon as the crash ended. Now this all happened within a few seconds. I have no idea what it could be. If it was ram, why would that affect my GPU not being able to load after the starting windows screen? Or when my nvidia drivers and even my directX driver/s got damaged by themselves. I hate shit like this because I have no idea what the problem is.
A bad PSU can cause all sorts of different bizarre failures, including GPU problems. Just humor us and try a different good brand PSU (none of those IEDs like logisys or HEC.)
