Hello i would like to know what the things are in red? The dock And that moniter thing here is a image.
The dock is a cheap rip off of Macs. I don't know why anyone uses them; it sucks on Macs and it sucks on Linux. Basically, you just click one of the icons down there and it opens that application, and it's like the task bar in Windows. When you open an application [that isn't already on the dock] it gets put on the dock. When you minimize an application you can maximize it again by clicking it. The problem is when you have multiple windows of the same program. I think the monitor is showing CPU activity.
Thank you very much :D
I use Cairo-dock. It's much better than the crappy AWN dock that everyone else uses.
I just installed Linux Mint today :D but I'm guessing since I don't have the Dock its a app?
I just installed Linux Mint today :D but I'm guessing since I don't have the Dock its a app?
I think you get the dock if you install from a DVD, and the CD leaves it out. [editline]08:23AM[/editline] also mint sucks etc
also mint sucks etc
What do you use?
I switch between Arch and Debian. I don't like when my OS babies me through everything.
I switch between Arch and Debian. I don't like when my OS babies me through everything.
well aren't you cool!
Linux Mint owns all. It's an OS that's easy to use and doesn't require alot of bullshit to get started. gets my hardware working from the livecd 100%, even both wireless cards.
"Linux mint help, What are these in red, please also shitpost your OS that you use too, that happens to be the best"
I switch between Arch and Debian. I don't like when my OS babies me through everything.
i like my OS's like i like my women barebones and useless
ITT: another "which distro is the best" war, and someone poorly explaining what he/she/it wants. That dock is clearly AWN (Avant Window Navigator). It's not bad, stable and fast - yet when you're working with multiple desks it becomes a real drag to manage. Here's a guide on how to install said Docklet: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=15277
I'm sure the monitor in the panel is a CPU monitor and can be added by right clicking the panel and choosing "Add to panel...".
i like my OS's like i like my women barebones and useless
Have you ever even used either of those operating systems? Call Gentoo useless, maybe Arch, but Debian is hardly a barebones OS.
Have you ever even used either of those operating systems? Call Gentoo useless, maybe Arch, but Debian is hardly a barebones OS.
no why would I bother using an operating system that is featureless when I can go get the latest ubuntu and have a completely functional desktop installed and functioning at full capacity in less than 10 minutes
no why would I bother using an operating system that is featureless when I can go get the latest ubuntu and have a completely functional desktop installed and functioning at full capacity in less than 10 minutes
Because then you can configure it to your needs, everything is completely your choice, and there is not a single package installed that you don't need.
Because then you can configure it to your needs, everything is completely your choice, and there is not a single package installed that you don't need.
Yeah, that is true, a lot of useless packages are installed with Ubuntu, what has happened to the old style where you could select every single package...
Yeah, that is true, a lot of useless packages are installed with Ubuntu, what has happened to the old style where you could select every single package...
Someone thought because he liked all this crap everyone else will too.
Because then you can configure it to your needs, everything is completely your choice, and there is not a single package installed that you don't need.
but again, for the extra 100mb of space it takes up it assures me that I won't run into something and go "welp gotta go find that now, compile it and configure it (then hope it works)" I just don't get the philosophy of being purposefully unprepared because you have a problem of installing some extra packages that aren't even space hogs in the first place
Lets find a package. I know, how about Apache 2? sudo apt-get install apache2 THAT TOOK 27 SECONDS. Lets find another package, this time a large one, how about XFCE? Edit: Broken dependencies. I'm not installing all that extra crap.

But jesus christ, Ubuntu installs so many shit with it it's unbelievable. I don't need two thirds of what it installs.
Ok guy's i have them and thank you all for the help... :D You can close this thread now
You don't close it, just leave it.
Lets find a package. I know, how about Apache 2? sudo apt-get install apache2 THAT TOOK 27 SECONDS.
Genius! But I have a better idea! But instead of making it easier on myself, maybe I should copy paste that into the terminal like you do, that way I can feel smart and satisfy my gargantuan ego! Because I don't use Linux because I prefer it, I use it so I can feel superior!
I didn't copy paste shit. I don't even have Synaptic installed, and I can guarantee that nobody that knows what they're doing use a package manager more complex than Pacman.
Well aren't you cool. Because why use a package manager when you can do it the difficult way and satisfy your giant superiority complex? Genius!
Well aren't you cool. Because why use a package manager when you can do it the difficult way and satisfy your giant superiority complex? Genius!
How is using the terminal more difficult? I use it all the time, and I'm not trying to satisfy any sort of superiority complex. It's more convenient for me.
Well aren't you cool. Because why use a package manager when you can do it the difficult way and satisfy your giant superiority complex? Genius!
It's not more difficult. If I'm going to install something, I usually know the package name, so I just go into the terminal and use that. I don't want to spend fifteen minutes trying to find a package in a horribly organized package manager when I can type twenty letters and be done with it

Are you from the Matrix or something? I'm just click n' go man. :rolleye: /trollin'
