• Survival Horror Sandbox games?

So I saw the trailers for "The Forest" and it looks amazing. Is there a game out there already with a similar concept? Y'know, walking around in a free world, getting your own resources, making buildings and then either fighting to survive or cowering in your house while the undead or whatever roam about outdoors. And no, Minecraft doesn't count. It's not exactly "horror".
dayz (don't take my word for it) no more room in hell
Stalker has great survival horror elements but doesn't have the construction aspects you're looking for. But it gets even better with mods. There's this one survival horror sandbox game called Darkout, it's like a somewhat harder Terraria with heavy emphasis on research, base building, and survival aspects.
STALKER, Project Zomboid, DayZ, State of Decay, and Z-Mod (for Garry's Mod) are the best out there right now.
I second Project Zomboid however it is still in an alpha state. Dayz Epoch should make the mod even better. Don't Starve has made me jump once or twice, but that game isn't finished either irrc.
Rust
Not 100% sandbox, but No More Room in Hell is quite good and free.

I'm the kinda guy that facepalmed when he played Slender for the first time (I knew nothing about it, no footage, I made sure I would get unspoiled experience) at how un-scary it was. Plays Cry of Fear, Afraid of Monsters, and Penumbra before going to bed. I love those games. But for some reason, when I play Minecraft, it's nighttime, and an Enderman comes after me, I literally become paranoid listening for their noises, and literally cry out when he finally kills me from behind. Is there something wrong with me?
Day One Garry's Incident
even though it might not really be "horror", but maybe Don't Starve? it's got most of what you're looking for.
