Hello I was looking to upgrade my laptop I have approximately 500-550 to spend basically what I need it to do -word processing -internet - run spss ( program behavioral scientists use to do statistics) - Basic Steam Games - Run World of Warcraft
What is a basic Steam game?
When you say Warcraft are you talking about it in DX9 or DX10/11? And what "Basic Steam Games" will you be playing on it?

Does both really well. SWTOR runs on medium in between 40-90 fps depending where you at. 40fps in most towns and outdoors on Ilum and 90fps on the Jawa Balloon and indoors. I personally love the styling of Lenovo laptops. The metal finish and the full sized keyboard with a number pad. It's much light and thinner than the Toshiba Satellite it's replacing. Cons: HDD could be better and the CPU isn't even close to the Intel lineup. I knew this when I bought it and is also reflect by the price. Other Thoughts: Overall I think this is a great laptop for the price and really have no doubts about Lenovo's quality. This is the 5th Lenovo I've bought in the past 2 years and they all work just as well today as the first day I used them.
But yeah, it'll run WoW. Just, don't expect to be raiding 25-mans with it.

If you really wanted to step up to Intel/Nvidia, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246213 Intel Core i3-2330M 2.2GHz 6GB DDR3 1333MHz NVIDIA Geforce GT 520M 15.6" 1366x768 500GB 5400rpm "up to" 4.5h battery $580, free shipping
do you need a laptop or do you just want a computer and think that laptops are better if you want to play video games then a budget laptop is going to piss you off because you'll be playing two year old games at low settings and then when newer games come out in a year to six months you won't be able to play them at all as opposed to buying a $500 pc and playing brand new games at very high

For most people, being able to move the machine around is more important than new games at very high. But I agree, if the laptop is just going to sit on a desk 24/7, then a desktop is a better option.
most people that buy laptops especially on fp say that "mobility is the most important thing" and that they are going to "move the laptop around a lot" but will still keep it plugged in forever well maybe move it around every week or two which is easily capable with a desktop anyways

Want me to carry a tower, monitor, mouse and keyboard over? If I just want to spend the night or something?

Shit i remember back during WoW: TBC, i got it running (it ran like FUCKING SHIT) on a 733mHz PowerMac G4, with 1GB of SDRAM and an nVidia GeForce 2 MX. On all low at 640x480 it got 8fps like a bawss. That was outside in the middle of Dun Morogh (basically devoid of players. Major cities just would not happen.

500$ =/= Gaming Laptop
500$ =/= Gaming Laptop
Ofcourse not, you'd need to use that $500 to buy a laptop capable of gaming first.

Except that HP is awful and horribly unreliable
Proof? edit: You can't judge a single laptop off an entire brand of computers

no, you're right. But you'd be fucking crazy to buy a refurbished model of a laptop that's notoriously unreliable.
if your computer cant even play wow right you should not try to play video games with it because it wont be able to
dunno if you were replying to me but I was replying to the guy above you
Have fun on your steaming pile of shit laptop :D

The guild he is in is so awesome that they are helping him get a new computer with an i5 and a 6670. It's not the best but shit he'll be happy.
Pepper;34770747']Have fun with your soon to be fucked laptop.
I don't have a laptop. Also as I was saying, just because a laptop has manufactured by Hewlett Packard doesn't mean that it's gonna die instantly This is in years. Don't suggest things that are equally prone to malfunctioning.
Proof? edit: You can't judge a single laptop off an entire brand of computers
Actually it's the opposite. I can't assume all Logitech products are bad because one of my mice failed. But I can logically assume that one certain HP laptop will be more prone to failure than others based on the average failure rate of all HP laptops, which happens to be the highest of any manufacturer.
I don't have a laptop. Also as I was saying, just because a laptop has manufactured by Hewlett Packard doesn't mean that it's gonna die instantly
The only laptops that HP make that are half decent are the business laptops (like the one i'm posting from right now) because if they half arsed those then they would lose ALOT of money Their consumer end laptops are FUBAR. I'm CONSTANTLY having to replace the motherboards in them because HP simply refuse to give them proper cooling.
