• Computer freezing intermittently after installing a new GPU

I've actually had this problem for a few months now; In December my GeForce 460 GTX died on me and I replaced it with a GeForce 660 GTX after making sure my computer could handle it and I had the requisite power to run it. Soon after however I discovered that my computer would freeze seemingly at random. However, I've discovered that certain applications almost guarantee a crash after some time of use and they're not too graphically intensive. I also obsessively monitor my temperatures and none of my components exceed their maximum temperatures so I don't believe overheating is the problem. The programs in question are 3DS Max 2013, Oblivion and watching YouTube videos in fullscreen. These three things will almost always result in a complete freeze after some use. The freezes happen incredibly rarely when not making use of the applications mentioned. The reason I doubt it's a power or heat issue is that programs that are far more intensive can run fine for hours without experiencing freezes, but doing/using the aforementioned will almost always result in a crash eventually. The time it takes is completely random, and sometimes it doesn't crash at all. When these freezes occur I'm unable to do anything but do a hard reset. A side-effect of this is that my external hard drive has begun suffering extensive corruption as it's constantly interrupted mid-write and takes ages to repair. I've been looking for a solution for months now and I'm at my wit's end. My computer hardware is as follows: Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 motherboard Nvidia GeForce 660 GTX GPU Intel i5-2500k CPU Corsair GS 600w PSU 6GB Corsair DDR3 XMS3 I should probably have done this earlier, but I'll be reseating the GPU and RAM very soon, but I won't really know if it's worked because like I said, the crashes -even though certain programs increase the chances- are completely random. Any help at all is greatly appreciated, it's put a severe dampener on my hobby of making 3D models as I never know when it's going to freeze and even with regular saves I run the risk of losing it to corruption, which has already happened to 3 of my models.
Sounds like a simple bad GPU.
Run a memtest.
