• Need something to split internet to 3 computers

For the last year or so I've been using some ancient hub( or a switch?), now that I switched over to faster internet it's cutting back my internet speed. So I need something to split the internet between them, two of the computers are going to be hosting servers. I was looking at this, but I'm not really sure what to look for. looks good I use http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124005 but the dlink works fine too
You'd just need a standard router. Hubs will send all incoming packets to all the connected computers, even if they aren't the intended recipient. That's what's making your connection so slow. Switches will send packets only to the computer listening to it, but that's about all it can do. A router can be told to route entire ports to certain computers, not just go on a packet by packet basis. This it what you'll want since you'll be hosting stuff and with a switch you can't direct all traffic on port XXX to a specific IP address.
Either a Switch, or a router with a switch. Go Gigabit for the extra money, it's well worth it.

I wish I could get a connection that fast :saddowns: I'm stuck with my shoddy 1-2 Mb/s connection.
I just got it actually, the tv is being set up as I type this post. [editline]08:20PM[/editline] Oh if you didn't know I'm already behind one router, I have a cable from it running into my room and I need something to split the connection in my room.
It's a pain in the ass to port forward if you're behind two routers.
Why would you need two routers for 3 computers, any good one has 4-5 ports.

Ok, bought.

Why are you so god damn lazy. Buy a normal router with 4-5 ports and fuckign run an ethernet cable to the "other" room that needs the internet. /thread

I have a router and a wire running to my room through my attic, and there isn't any free ports on the router.
