Hello, So recently I moved Steam to my SSD and put Gmod alongside it, but I seem to have issues with other programs that aren't on the SSD to update. I have them on my HDD in their own Steam/ folder in Program Files, but for some reason it just won't update. I can still play it, but when I try to update it I get an error: An error occurred while updating <game> (disk write error) <game> being the game I'm trying to update. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you!
There are probably files reliant on each other but are on the two different storage devices. It's looking for the files in its local directory but cant find them. If I were you I'd remove whats on your SSD (assuming thats not where your main directory is) and start again following this http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1461884
That doesn't work as much as I planned it to. What I want is to keep Steam on my SSD while it recognizes games on my HDD and can update it, which it recognizes, but doesn't update. But, when using this tutorial I'm only able to manage to put games on my SSD and then create a symbolic link thing on my HDD making me have to put my games on my SSD. When I try to do
cd <my SSD drive>
It just doesn't work. Even while running administrator.
