Hey so as you can guess, I got my W7 locked.
I've had it for...6 months or so now without a problem.
Now when I turned on the computer, it went fucknuts on me and started whining over me having a fake windows, funny thing is that it's not even fake!
So I follow Microsofts guides and such and then turn up with the one solution "Change product key" to the one I have....Okay.
I do that and get notified that Microsoft blocked my key.
So I guess I need to go get a new W7 but I just want to ask two questions.
Why would they do that?
Can I still run games, programs and such as normal?
I think being locked just prevents you from getting windows updates. Though where did you get your Windows 7 from?

From a friend that had two copies. I've had that Genuine windows shit and they confirmed it was a legal copy. So yeah I am pissed, my cool desktop!
I'm positive THEY aren't doing anything because it's detected by Windows.
It's likely a malfunction, you should try to contact Microsoft.

You sure it's legit?

Windows Genuine said it was legal, not my fault if they are wrong.
Scanning computer for virus then I restart computer seeing that I've gotten wierd results from using sleep mode before.
Windows Genuine can be fooled, did you get like.. A retail box, etc? What exactly did your friend give you?

Just asked. It's one of the copies you can buy at a lot of schools/universities in UK and US.

Did you get windows on a burned CD and a activation key written down on a paper?
Then it's not legit.
Or do you have windows 7 beta?

Yes but WHAT did he give you? Was it just a CD in a case with a CD key scrawled down? Did it look official?

Windows 7 ultimate, not beta.
sounds like your freind gave you fake version and new activation update updated
Oh well games works and all so I wont care.
If you put a new serial in you should go to the genuine site and it will figure out that it's legit, then you restart and you should be good.

ye well it's legit but they blocked the key. So I dunno but I am content with not having a desktop, and barely updated anyway. I get a new copy when I can afford.
Microsoft blocks faked keys that are generated to act like OEM/Uni keys.
They also blacklisted keys that were distributed via a bug in Technet that happened a while back.
i got the same problem with the copy my mum got with her her Fujitsu laptop
any ideas on getting rid of WGA notifications on 7 home premium?
[editline]09:20PM[/editline]

You call Microcan's activation line (it'll give you an option when you try to activate Windows)?
Calling activation support will probably solve it for you. Doesn't cost anything and they seem very friendly and unquestioning. If it really is a legit key they will have no problem activating you.
i just want a way of getting rid of the WGA shit even if it is legit i still don't want my mums laptop "phoning home" every start/2 weeks
Call Microsoft Support and they should be able to do exactly what you want..

Go through the activation process, put your key in (it won't work), then you'll get a phone number. Call it. Tell them your legit key isn't working anymore, give it to them, they'll read you some numbers and you'll be good to go.
Some Uni versions of Windows 7 and other MS products come without packaging, so you need to burn them yourself and jot down the key.
I'm doing a computer sciences course, so my Uni has a deal with MS through the MSDNAA (Microsoft Dev Network Academic Alliance), and I got a Win7 pro and a Visual Studio 2008 pro licence with that. On the MSDNAA site I identified with my Uni information and got ISO files to download and a key sent to my email address. So the way my legit Win7 looks to me is a Replika DVD-R with Win7 and a key scrawled on it.
Although, if your friend lied about the source of your copy, that might be the problem.
MSDNAA has VS2008? hot damn I need to check mine more

In that situation the key is for your use. I don't think you are allowed to give keys out to friends under academic alliance.

Correct. You are not permitted to distribute keys unless they are VLK and being used within your confined working environment.
It happened to me with my legal copy, there is a patch called removeWAT that you can use to completely get rid of the phone home update.
made for pirates, but legit users have a use for it too

I got Visual Studio 2008 Team Suite Edition of MSDNAA.
And the installer does not require a key (already filled in).
:D

You may need to ask your friendly network admin to add it for you if it's not on the site.
