Okay, so I've had The Matrix Ultimate DVD Collection for the past few months. I can use all of them on the DVD player in my living room just fine, but running them on my computer is an entirely different story. It's this little, hellish piece of software called InterActual Player. The Matrix DVDs are designed so you have access to a bunch of cool, extra features if you decide to run them on your computer, and in order to gain access to said features, each DVD can and will automatically install the InterActual Player for you, so you can get those features. The problem with InterActual, however, is the fact that you need an existing Direct-Show compatible DVD player/decoder program on your computer. This flaw alone renders the entire thing a waste of HDD space, unless you have a DVD-playing program. That's why I'm asking the following questions, Facepunch.
1. Is there any way to get these DVDs to function on a video-playing program like Windows Media Player or QuickTime or VLC Media Player, while altogether ignoring InterActual?
Or...
2. Are there any free Direct Show compatible DVD decoders out there that are known to work with InterActual?
IA Player is only compatible with Windows 9x/ME, 2000 and XP. It's not going to work properly or at all on Windows Vista, 7 or 8.
IA Player should run fine being installed by itself on supported operating systems. If it doesn't work, you can try installing FFDShow-Tryouts and enabling DVD decoding on the MPEG2 decoder.
I'm on Windows XP. The problem isn't my operating system, it's the fact that I have to purchase and download some extra DVD decoder in order to actually make use of IA. I'll try out this FFDShow thing and see how it goes this afternoon.
