• Samba won't share external harddrive :(

So I can share files from my internal hard drive using samba to my windows pc (I just set it to share and set the group the samba in the gui) but when i try to do the same for a folder on my external hard drive it won't let me access it from my windows but i can see the folder. How is it i got around doing this?
It's probably because the drive is formated in NTFS and the ntfs/ntfs-3g driver doens't handle windows permissions well.
what format should it be?
I don't think that you need to reformat it. It would be usful if you posted the contents of your smb.conf file.
If formatting the drive is easier for you, pretty much anything other than Windows FS's will work. Ext3/4 would be perfectly fine.
I didn't edit the smb.conf just followed a tutorial on you tube and it wasn't required. I think it might be cause i didn't mount the drive unless thats automatic.
Give us more information, have you added the user into the samba user list? If you need a password, is it denying it? How are your permissions setup? etc, etc.
I don't seem to need a password i can acess the files on my internal hard drive just fine just not external
