• The list of must-have Cydia Apps and Tweaks
    25 replies, posted
I've been searching on Google for lists like this a lot, but all I can come up with is bullshit like thermometer apps or "simulate a broken screen" apps. I'd like to start a list of actually useful apps that improve your experience with your iDevice and add an extra touch. I'll start with a basic list which is the list of those I have installed and find good and useful. All of these have been tested on 4.3.3 (8J2) iPhone and probably work on all versions below that (at least all 4.x <= 4.3.3) and possibly above. Feel free to suggest stuff. I'll consider and add everything to the OP.
Repositories:
WARNING: Cracked apps repos are listed too, but this doesn't mean you have to make use of cracked apps. I do not endorse the download of cracked apps. I clearly listed hosts of cracked content so you can avoid them. Use them at your own risk. ▬ BigBoss: Hosts a bunch of themes and a few tweaks http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/ ▬ BiteYourApple: Hosts stuff like AppSync and AppCake which is similar to Installous (but doesn't run on my iPhone). WARNING: Might contain cracked apps. Use at your own risk. http://repo.biteyourapple.net/ ▬ Hackulo.us: Hosts various versions of AppSync and Installous. WARNING: Might contain cracked apps. Use at your own risk. http://cydia.hackulo.us/ ▬ HackYouriPhone: Contains a few themes and interesting tweaks and applications. WARNING: Might contain cracked apps. Use at your own risk. http://repo.hackyouriphone.org/ ▬ iHacksRepo: A few nice tweaks, apps and themes. WARNING: Might contain cracked apps. Use at your own risk. http://repo.hackyouriphone.org/ ▬ iPhoneCake.com: Official host of AppCake. Also hosts AppSync. WARNING: Might contain cracked apps. Use at your own risk. http://cydia.iphonecake.com/ ▬ ModMyi.com: Mostly themes and bootlogos, a few tweaks. WARNING: Might contain cracked apps. Use at your own risk. http://apt.modmyi.com/ ▬ SiNful iPhone Repo: Host of cracked apps. Don't use it if you want to avoid cracked stuff. WARNING: Might contain cracked apps. Use at your own risk. http://sinfuliphonerepo.com/ ▬ Telesphoreo Tangelo: Original Cydia repo, should come with Cydia. Hosts mostly power-user apps and tweaks. http://apt.saurik.com/ ▬ xSellize: Mostly themes, contains some tweaks. WARNING: Might contain cracked apps. Use at your own risk. http://cydia.xsellize.com/ ▬ Your Cydia Repo: Hosts themes and some interesting tweaks. WARNING: Might contain cracked apps. Use at your own risk. http://yourcydiarepo.org/ ▬ ZodTTD & MacCiti: Mostly themes, a bunch of tweaks. WARNING: Might contain cracked apps. Use at your own risk. http://cydia.zodttd.com/repo/cydia/ If you have any more, please post them and state the stuff they contain and whether or not they have cracked content.
Apps and Tweaks:
▬ Activator: Should come with Cydia. Centralized gestures, button and shortcut management for iOS. Allows you to execute various actions by interacting with various parts of the GUI like for example double-tapping the clock in the lockscreen to run the Camera app. SBSettings uses this to allow you to open it by sliding on the status bar. ▬ Airplane SBSettings Toggle: Adds a toggle to SBSettings to enable/disable Airplane mode easily. ▬ AppSync: Should come with Cydia. Allows your phone to sync illegally-acquired apps with iTunes as if you actually bought them. ▬ biteSMS: Great messaging app. Allows you to quick-compose and answer directly from inside another app or the lockscreen, and has a lot of customization options. ▬ CardSwitcher: Allows you to switch between apps easily, similarly to how you switch between tabs in Safari. It binds by default to double-pressure of the home button. I switched it to single pressure on the statusbar. ▬ Covert: Adds a neat little button to Safari to enable/disable private browsing. Useful when you want to avoid leaving traces of the pages you visit in your browser history. ▬ CyDelete: Enables you to remove Cydia apps right from the homescreen instead of having to uninstall them from cydia. ▬ iFile: Browse your entire iPhone easily. Also allows you to edit files. I used it to change biteSMS's icon and app name to perfectly resemble the Messages app, then hid the original. Perfect result. ▬ Infiniboard: Allows you to add vertical scrolling and paging to the pages of your SpringBoard, thus letting you use space in a more intelligent way. ▬ Infinidock: Allows you to have multiple pages on your dock, put an infinite amount of icons on it and even decide how many icons to display per page. ▬ Infinifolders: Like Infiniboard, but for folders: allows you to have an unlimited amount of icons in your folders and scroll through them. ▬ Installous 4: Allows you to download paid AppStore apps for free. WARNING: this app provides downloads for cracked apps. Use at your own risk. ▬ Landscape lock rotation: Allows you to lock your rotation in landscape mode as well, depending on the rotation at the moment of locking. Very useful. ▬ MobileTerminal: A true UNIX console on your iPhone. Allows you to operate power-user tasks and use various console commands. Also makes you look like a proper nerd. ▬ Move2Unlock: Extends the possibilities of your lockscreen by adding various unlocking modes. Sadly, it flickers on version 4.3.3 so I keep it disabled. Seems to work fine on previous versions. ▬ MxTube: Similar to the YouTube app, but also allows you to download your videos and watch them in HD, even over 3G connection. ▬ Orbit for iOS 4: Allows you to switch between SpringBoard pages via an easy to use overview of all the pages. Looks a bit weird with Infiniboard installed. ▬ Photector: (not very well polished) tweak to protect your photos from being deleted without authorization, asks for password every time. Be careful, the password is not covered with dots while you type it. Still, served me well a few times when stupid friends tried to mass-delete my pictures. ▬ Pull To Refresh Safari: Adds pull-to-refresh action to Safari. Looks a bit ugly when the pages are wider than the view though. Still cool anyway. ▬ Safari Download Manager: Allows you to download files and open them in iFile or similar. Gets a bit in the way when you're trying to view pictures. ▬ Tab+: Unlocks the 8-tab limit for Safari to allow you to have an unlimited number of tabs. ▬ Webscrollian: enables smooth scroll for web views. This is what Apple should have done a long time ago. ▬ Winterboard: allows you to use themes and customize the sound of the device. WARNING: It'll fuck up the aspect of your SpringBoard a little on iOS 4. ▬ Springtomize: A settings app which contains many, many tweaks for your device. It even goes as far as letting you choose which color your screen flashes when you take a screenshot. Highly recommended. ▬ FullForce: If you have an iPad and have quite a few iPhone apps you'll welcome this app, as it allows you to run iPhone apps in "iPad Mode". Can be a bit buggy with some apps, but you can toggle which apps use it and which don't. ▬ Locktopus: Password protect individual apps directly from the homescreen. ▬ MultiIconMover: Something iOS should have already. Allows you to move more than 1 app at a time on your springboard by selecting apps, dragging them, then pushing the home button to apply. ▬ Barrel: Customization tweak. Allows you to add nice 3d effects when switching pages on the springboard. ▬ PhotoAlbums+: Great tweak which allows you to customize your pictures without having to use iTunes. Lets you create new folders and move pictures between them, and the folders are also reflected when you browse to your iPhone with your computer. And that's all for now. If you have any apps that haven't been listed and you'd like to see here, please list them. Also list their Repository if it's not included above. Enjoy.
Winterboard is quite good for applying themes.
Winterboard is quite good for applying themes.
Yeah, I tried it out once but on iOS 4 it fucks everything up. Plus using themes is not my favorite way to customize the device. Gonna add it to the list.
Thank you for telling us about Webscrollian. I've been looking for an app like this for a while. I'd also like to recommend a few cydia apps. ▬ Springtomize: A settings app which contains many, many tweaks for your device. Anything to speed up my device a bit? It boots mega-slowly :c Google Voice is awesome for free texting and stuff - get it. IconMaker for making custom icons FakeCarrier for changing your carrier text PixelateTool for blurring photos FolderCloser to close any open folders when you exit an app AndroidLock XT for a better lockscreen BrowserChanger to change what browser opens URLS Full Charge Alert to let you know when you're fully charged Icon Renamer to change the text under apps PasswordPilot to automatically enter your iTunes password in the App Store Google can find you the repos, I don't remember them all.
YouTubetoMP3 Wonderful app, it's in one of the standard repo's, might be Big Boss. It rips audio from YouTube videos and create playlists from them. The developer is currently working on an iPod import feature as well, it's in beta for all devices except the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G
Lockinfo, i couldn't live without it. It displays a whole bunch of customizable info on the lockscreen, including recent notifications, rss feeds, weather, calendar entires and mail.
I don't really like that, it may seem nice but if someone steals your iDevice they could get into your stuff, couldn't they? :S
No, it simply shows latest incoming messages and other stuff like twitter. The most dangerous thing they could have access to would be latest incoming emails. Assuming you have a passcode lock on it, they couldn't do much else. But it's part of the reason that Apple has a remote lock and wipe feature on iPhones.

[editline]14th September 2011[/editline] I just purchased PhotoAlbums+. Great tweak, worth the money in my opinion.
I dunno if I even like people reading my emails..they sometimes get a little spicy.. :v:
Do you email pictures of your dick?
Don't forget frash!
Mark Read - mark all of your emails read or unread ImaSafari - adds a toggle to disable images in Safari SBImgBlockToggle - same as above, just as an SBSettings toggle Multitasking Time 2- adds a status bar (clock battery etc.) to the multitask tray SwitcherMod - complete control over the multitask tray Remove Recents - removes non-runming apps from the multitask tray (I think Switchermod can also do this) Fast Copy - removes copy/paste button delay ToDoNotes - push notes to the to the empty space below the Spotligh search [editline]15th September 2011[/editline] I'll post the repos later
Do you email pictures of your dick?
no, I run a small company oriented around chili peppers and salsa v:v:v
Don't forget frash!
I won't add that. Frash is quite useless today and works very badly (at least from my experience). The web is bound to become a flash-less experience soon.
That's actually a really cool list and i'm happy to see that i had a lot of the stuff on the list haha Another repo that might be worth adding is Insanelyi repo (http://repo.insanelyi.com/) Which has a lot of the same packages are iHacksrepo but it's always good to have backups. haha Also Dreamboard is a cool new theming platform that people might like.
Anyone have any decent repos with decent games? I can't find any good games :S
Uhh, what is the difference between Cracked apps and freely downloaded paid apps?
Cracked implies they've been tampered with, as to bypass a license or something.
Anyone have any decent repos with decent games? I can't find any good games :S
What kind of games do you mean? Like Appstore type games or homebrew style games?
Games that don't make me install something else to play it - like a normal app..but a game! :v: I'm not huge on iOS gaming, but I barely have any games and I get stuck with nothing to do almost every day while I have my iPod Touch but no internet.. :S

SilentMode Switcher is essential if, like me, you have a broken silent switch.
Double At: Pressing @ twice will paste in your email address. Password Pilot: Remembers app store password-useful if you have a long pasword like I do. AdBlocker: Does what it says. Folder Enhancer: Opens/closes folders much smoother, in a different format. Much nicer. 3G Unrestrictor: If like me you have an unlimited data plan, you can stop apps from being restricted to Wi-Fi only.
