• How would this build be?
    55 replies, posted
I'm currently planning to get this build in a near future, and would like to ask the computer geniuses that normally hang around Fp some questions about it. Can the watercooling and 2x GFX's fit in the case? Is there any parts you think i should replace? And how the build is overall. Any suggestions and thoughts are appreciated. I personally think 2x 5970s would be overkill.
max budget?
I'm gonna get a 30" screen so about $4000 tops for the computer itself.
I'm gonna get a 30" screen so about $4000 tops for the computer itself.
Drop one of othe 5970s and get the 6 core i7.
It's really not worth it, it costs about 4 times as much as the 920. and yet it gives about 4 fps more in games. I wait ½-1 year before considering upgrading to that, due to possible price reduction.
Drop 1 5970, upgrade to a 930 i7 and if you have some left over get a 5850/5870 and xfire it with the 5970... and im not sure but you might want to get a full tower case like a nice lianli one or get a better watercooling system.

I would really like to know, if anyone knows, can the watercooling and 2x GFX's fit in the case?
yes
After looking at the mobo's specifications, the one i chose above. I noticed that it said Does that mean i need to OC something to make it capable of using the PC3-16000 ram?

What do i need to OC, can i get a link of a tutorial or something?
Why are you spending so much money on a motherboard?
Why are you spending so much money on a motherboard?
Same reason he has a 920 and 2 5970s
Exactly what I thought. Honestly A good motherboard with i5/i7 sockets and DDR3 RAm and 2 PCI-e slots etc. can be bought for about £80, or $110 or so. I dont see any reason to spend any more than that.
Why are you spending so much money on a motherboard?
because he has the money

Still though, the motherboard he has doesn't seem to have anything special that would be worth $290. If you buy 1600mhz memory, then you have to overclock it from 1333mhz. Same with 1800 and 2000. It's not very hard, you just need to manually set the timings and manually adjust the clock to 20 something.
A good i7 server motherboard is around $150-$200.
YEah, just did that bit of research, I take that back. [editline]12:52AM[/editline] But I also read some reviews of the motherboard that OP was going to get. And HOLY SHIT so many DOA's. I strongly recommend getting a different board to be on the safe side, and not chuck so much money away.
get a lian-li if you have the money might as well have the style
get a lian-li if you have the money might as well have the style
Because style is so worth an additional $150. Save the money and stick with the trusty full sized Cooler Master cases.
Because style is so worth an additional $150. Save the money and stick with the trusty full sized Cooler Master cases.
and the awesome build quality falls into that $150
and the awesome build quality falls into that $150
He's watercooling the system. There seems very little point to spend extra for slightly improved air cooling.
The motherboard he has doesn't seem to have anything special that would be worth $290.
Well, i would be more than happy to save money where i can. What other mobo do you suggest? I need to be able to fit 2x 5970, up to 6x ram sticks, support the 980x cpu for possible future upgrade and must be reliable.
He's watercooling the system. There seems very little point to spend extra for slightly improved air cooling.
It's only the CPU i watercool, if you wonder. And i'm open for suggestions such as ideas for new components, case and that. I thought the HAF 932 was a case with good airflow, if you recommend an other case, THAT IS NOT some super expensive Lian Li, i might consider changing.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128423 Gigabyte mobo. has room for two x16 slot 5970s, supports 24GB of memory, and it is 1366 socket. I think this should cover it. [editline]05:37PM[/editline]
It's only the CPU i watercool, if you wonder.
why u hatin on lian-li
I'm not hating, I just find their cases awfully expensive, and i can't be assed to pay that much for a case.
if you think it's too expensive that's ironic because you're spending 400 bucks on 6 gigs of ram
The case doesn't increase my performance. :3
The case doesn't increase my performance. :3
your ram will increase it by like 1 fps bro if you're not doing like phase change or something domintor is really unnecessary, the h50 is terrible for water cooling anyways [editline]01:45AM[/editline] some air coolers beat it
Hmm.. It's cheap and got good ratings and reviews. I need my CPU watercooled since i need to OC it to 4ghz. What watercooler do you suggest then?
-Bump- I think the H50 will be able to keep the OCed 920 cool. Do you guys know if 1000w is enough to power this build?
