Hey Facepunch,
I just wanted to find out if my first build and my first quad core build is set. I'm a penny pincher so I didn't get a new monitor. Also I'll save up for a pretty high end graphics card. Here it is
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106291 Burner
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811148030 Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.213770 All in one deal includes, motherboard, memory, multi-processor, and hard drive.
OS- Linux Ubuntu (this may change to windows 7, I haven't quite decided.)
According to Newegg it is $494.95.
1. Will everything fit?
2. Anything I should know off hand about putting together a computer?
3. Is everything compatible with one another?
4. Any way I can save money?
5. Did I forget anything?
Thanks for the help Facepunch.
1) Yes
2) There is a megathread about building it is pretty straight forward.
2) Yes but by the fact that it is a combo deal that is pretty obvious.
4) Search around for the parts separately, it normally is cheaper than buying combo
5) Fan and heat-sink if you are going to overclock and a power supply if your old one is shitty or came with a pre-built.
Wait, you're building this soon but buying a nice graphics card later?
Why not hold off until you can afford everything?
Also, that case is butt-ugly and the power supply is liable to go all on you.
Get a graphics card too, you'll want one, and it will save you shipping costs,
And get a different case/PSU, they come with the case for free with a reason.
Also, that is an epic combo deal.
if your monitor's res is low then a powerful graphics card is just wasted cash
I would recommend a different case.

A friend gave me this because he was building a new computer and didn't want it. It is really nice too. So I figure I'll use it. It isn't damaged at all. Like brand new.

I'm waiting for a the price drop on a decent 4890. Gaming isn't a priority, but it will be in the future.Yeah I realize that the case is ugly, but I'm not looking for the Mona Lisa of cases here. If you have an idea on what power supply and/or case I should use that would be great.
Fuck a 4890, just get a 4870 1GB.

This is what I had in mind before.
Nevermind..
You could get the 4870 and get a better monitor at a later date, but 1280x1024 isn't a difficult res to run and a 4870 is wasted on it really
