I put my new motherboard in but its asking for a proper boot device?

It says reboot and select proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. Did i do something wrong? I put the disk the mobo came with in the disk drive but that's not it i guess.

That's just drivers for the motherboard. Try going into the BIOS and select the HDD with your Windows installation as the boot device - chances are you'll have to reinstall Windows to make shit work, though.
How do i do that? i'm in the bios right now, and my windows disk is in

Set the boot priority to be the DVD drive, then. Boot into the disk and install Windows: you're done.
When I click that there is no option for the DVD drive
Does it just have the model number of the HDD?
It just says USB: generic inc compact flash 1.00 under boot option prioritys
this is important: did you plug your hard drive and DVD drive into the motherboard?

and is there power plugged into the drives.
I don't even know there's just so many wires and I plugged in what I could
It sounds to me like your hard drive and DVD drive just aren't plugged in, either to the power or the mobo itself
Well I have a red wire going from my hard drive to the mobo, but where is the DVD wire?

Take some photos of the insides and post them.
I don't have access to a phone right now
well there should be two wires plugged into both drives, one going to the motherboard and one going to the PSU
wow i regret ever doing this, i have no idea what i'm doing and now i can't even get my computer to turn on

well I got it on again, I still am not sure what i'm doing wrong though. I have a wire going from my HDD to the mobo and there's some wires that looks like they are coming from the disk drive. There is one smaller wire coming from there though also that i can't seem to find anywhere it will fit into the motherboard.

You got a manual with your motherboard, use it. Chances are you've connected something wrong (or not at all). Make sure the front panel connectors are plugged in the right way.
Chances are you're using a SATA HDD: https://www.google.dk/search?q=Sata&sugexp=chrome,mod%3D2&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=da&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=bGq4UOrIJYX5sgaFmoH4AQ&biw=1366&bih=677&sei=eWq4UMqKAo6Rswa1iYEQ
That connector should be plugged in both in the HDD and the motherboard. You'll have to plug in a SATA power connector as well: https://www.google.dk/search?q=Sata&sugexp=chrome,mod%3D2&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=da&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=bGq4UOrIJYX5sgaFmoH4AQ&biw=1366&bih=677&sei=eWq4UMqKAo6Rswa1iYEQ#um=1&hl=da&safe=off&tbo=d&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=sata+power+connector&oq=Sata+power&gs_l=img.3.1.0i19l10.4267.6210.3.7573.7.5.0.2.2.0.459.1165.0j3j1j0j1.5.0...0.0...1c.1._4muc-xfAJI&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=2a5fe20c6b90f5a9&bpcl=39314241&biw=1366&bih=677
Your DVD-drive may be using an IDE cable and a Molex 4-pin power adapter, search for those terms and plug them in.
I'm having someone I know who knows this shit come by later today to help me.

Word of advice for the next time, make sure you actually know how to do that sort of stuff BEFORE you attempt it.
If not, make sure someone is present.
I needed to buy a new disk drive because i couldn't plug it into the new motherboard and windows wouldn't start it just got stuck in a loop
In that case you are REALLY lucky that it's just the drive. Make sure everything you have is compatible with whatever you choose to upgrade, otherwise you could find yourself out a couple hundred cause your cpu/ram/gpu/psu aren't compatible.

That's most probably because you changed motherboard. There's probably nothing wrong with the drive, you'll juts have to reinstall Windows.
This guy told me I needed a SATA drive and the wire going from mine didn't have a slot for it on the motherboard. We tried to boot windows from the disk but it wouldn't let us. At first he thought it was my HDD but it was working fine before.

you're going to have to reinstall windows
are you sure you can't plug in your dvd drive? most newer motherboards have at least one IDE slot
This is a disaster. OP, you'll need something like this to convert from IDE over to SATA so you can take an image of your hard drive and apply it to a SATA drive.
Or something.

These things are terrible and are often unreliable, you're better off getting a proper PCI IDE controller
Well I already ordered a new disk drive that is SATA and it should be here sometime this week.
Well I finally got my new setup working and I am posting from it right now :)

I actually have one of these to connect my PS2 hard drive to my SATA only computer. It definitely works, but like you said, for no apparent reason, it refuses to show up in the BIOS sometimes and you need to reboot a few times. Oh yeah, and sometimes it restricts the transfer speed, I've gotten limited to 2 MB/s, and then another boot 50 MB/s. Once again, no real explanation why, same disk and everything.
Its one of those things that are really more meant for you to use it for temporary use, rather than permanently. Because like you said, it would be better to buy an actual IDE controller for a permanent installation.
