I got a free (nvidia?) geforce gtx670 for helping a friend move. he said it had a couple problems, which is why he replaced it, but that it should work fine after i send it in for a refurb
this is the computer I have right now

once i get it refurb'd, am I good to plug this bad boy in and get going, or are there other parts I should get first?

Try that
Probably, assuming you do get it refurbished.

Oh..is it a prebuilt system? Space may be an issue.

i kind of thought so, which is why i want to make sure there are no conflicts with components or anything like that
i'm totally ready to buy a new case if i need to, i just don't want to buy any extra components unless i really need to
it's compatible; but the issue would be if it fits or not; just try it out when you get the card and see if it fits inside the case.

The PSU is pretty sketchy and is only 300 watts; it should be fine but I wouldn't really risk it though, just don't attempt any overclocking whatsoever.
When you have the money in the future I really suggest you upgrade your mobo, cpu, case and psu.

Thanks! I already have the card so I might try it out when I get off work, but I'll probably just wait until it's refurbished
And I don't do any over locking anyway, but how much of a problem could it be? Should I get a new power supply as well?
I would NEVER put a 670 on a 300 watt IED from HP. Best thing it just doesn't turn on. Worst case is much, much worse.

i'm sorry, i'm having a hard time figuring out if IED is another component i need, or if you're really calling my power supply a homemade bomb
but anyway, would this power supply be better?

I'm calling your power supply a homemade bomb. They are known to catch fire if put under maximum load.
