Hi, I moved into my halls today and I set up my internet which is rather slow, however, loading websites is absolutely find speed wise but streaming stuff is really slow. I can be streaming and then try downloading something and the speed is absolutely fine. Can anyone tell me what I can do about it or will I have to upgrade my internet for £200? Thanks in advance.
Oh okay some people here use "streaming" as a substitute for torrents. Best bet is to contact the system admin
This isn't torrents... I am talking streaming media, youtube and the like.
uh streaming != torrents rate me late
Nah it's good to clarify the point Novembr.
anyway maybe try talking to the admins about it? edwards stop editing to make me look silly >:(
Nah it's good to clarify the point Novembr.
Indeed.
I could call the admins though that would be an embarressing phone call if it was meant to be like that. I thought I would ask the experts here first. By the way it is a wired network.
I'm assuming then that your internet connection runs through a proxy and it is restricting speeds on certain websites or the university proxy servers are busy.
Hmmm could be such a problem, thanks. I just don't want to have to pay that kind of money for fast internet I would rather just go home!
Anyone else have any ideas?
Might be something to do with the network switches at your Uni, in which case you really can't bypass unless you use a program to set your total download speed to 100kbps even if you can get 300Kbps, that way you have a constant total, if that doesn't work try streaming stuff at non-peak hours.
OK, thanks, I also have 2 other problems. Facebook will not load and whenever I exit from the loading it says are you sure you want to navigate away from this page. Also, msn keeps showing other people that I am offline. Can I get help with those 2 problems? Thanks.
