Heya,
My girlfriend has recently show interest in video games and wants to try and play some (she never played anything before)
I have a fairly decent gaming rig, and one wired xbox360 controller. Are there any games you could recommend to play? (Either singleplayer and fun to watch or preferably local multiplayer using a keyboard and controller)
Portal 2
Have her being your personal medic in TF2, or you be her personal medic.
Theres also dota, but then you'd probably break up over shouting at each other :/
me and my girlfriend play a lot of league of legends together, but if you can get her into it I'd recommend co-oping DayZ maybe?
i hear that huniepop game's all the rage
Battleblock Theater

Beware: Dota 2 matchmaking may get fussy if you both try and matchmake from the same IP.
Castle Crashers
lego games
Left 4 Dead
The LEGO games. Specifically LEGO star wars + Harry potter
If it takes longer than 30 seconds to explain how to play the game, don't play that.

Audiosurf and Telltale games are the first that come to mind that would be accessible to non-gamers
Minesweeper
Dead Rising 2 or 3
Try Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Don't know why but it is the only game I can get my girlfriend to play.
Mario Party
Seriously though, puzzle games like snakebird might be good.
Nekopara
Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Splitscreen
Hatred
Portal 1/2, Minecraft, LEGO Games.
All three are really easy to pick up and play with an incredibly easy learning curve.
Thanks for the suggestions!
But can I play these using a keyboard + controller?
Beat hazard maybe. Works best with controllers.
Rapelay is pretty good and socially progressive, though the biggest problem with having your girl play it is that it doesn't really support controllers I assume. Yep. The only problem with it
Mount Your Friends, definitely.

rapelay would be way too hard for her.
borderlands 2

I googled this...
I regret it...
The Ultimate DOOM/DOOM 2
not that hard to learn as long as you're playing vanilla/with vanilla controls and setting up a network game is easy
EDIT: oops, didn't read the local part. if it's a local multiplayer game you want i'd suggest Cortex Command but it takes getting used to, but an xbox 360 controller is perfect for it
I'm dropping games I've played over six years in a long distance relationship, so apologies in advance if any of these aren't split-screen/local cooperative. Secondly, we're both avid gamers so the difficulty range is going to change a lot. If it's bold, I think it has local cooperative.
Audiosurf (has a mode designed specifically for two local players!)
Battleblock Theater
Castle Crashers
Doom (If you use the Legacy Source Port. This port has little to no features supporting current modifications running on zDoom)
Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition
Magicka
Monaco
7 Days to Die
Borderlands (1 for seriousness, 2 for the most content, TPS if you're absolutely desperate.
Bunch of Heroes (Not that great though, pretty tough.)
Dead Island
Dead Rising 2
Divinity Trilogy (Original Sin sucked huge number of hours out together and was fun.)
Don't Starve Together
Dying Light
EYE: Divine Cybermancy
FEAR 3
Garry's Mod
Just Cause 2
Killing Floor (1 for content, 2 for looks)
Left 4 Dead 1 and 2
Orcs Must Die 2
Payday 1 and Payday 2 (can't stand behind 2's business practices, so only get it on sale /w DLC)
Portal 2
Race the Sun (is not multiplayer, but might be fun taking turns.)
Resident Evil 5/6/Revelations (If that's your thing.)
Risk of Rain
Saints Row 2, 3, 4, Gat Out of Hell (3/4 are the most solid, 2 runs awful without mods, Gat is extremely thin on content/a little boring)
Serious Sam Trilogy
Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army Trilogy
Tabletop Simulator
Terraria (and Starbound, but egh)
The Binding of Issac: Rebirth
Titan Quest (and Immortal Throne)
Torchlight II
Trine 2
That's all that comes to mind.

Doom has a port (I think it's Legacy?) that has a split-screen feature.
I've played over 100 hours of Terraria with my GF

Cortex Command, I know you can KB/C that.
don't forget to take her through the tutorial if you play this though

Don't play SS2, skip over it. You said you had a decent rig, so, SS2'll probably just crash every cutscene for you.
But the SS HD encounters are fine (dunno if they have controller/keyboard splitscreen) and SS3:BFE is fine (know for a fact there's splitscreen and it'd be stupid if you needed two controllers to do it)
Actually to be honest, SS3:BFE is what I would recommend anyway. It's a fucking great game and it's a prequel to the first encounter. Me and my friend co-oped through the game in one sitting and it took ~12 hours iirc.
