i leave my laptop downstairs to charge (building work in the upper part meant no electricity) and i come back and open the screen and it looks like this. i'm guessing only getting a new screen will fix it?
What the fuck?
How does that even happen?
Why does it look like a spider?
that looks like a spider taking a pee lol
but seriously is there an impact mark on the screen where the damage is? If not try applying pressure and see if the pattern changes, if it does then it can be fixed without a new sceen
i just tried applying gentle pressure to it but nothing changed, it just did the normal 'liquidy thing' behind those pixels. there are no signs of injury to the screen itself, there are no slit marks or anything on the surface of the screen... it's quite odd.
you should keep that screen and keep it like that, it's awesome
it looks like the pixel world is being torn apart by a rift
sell it for trillions
It might be that the cable that sends the image information to the screen is damaged if you open and close the laptop does it change?
nope, makes no difference. i shall try restarting though... brb

nope, no change. :(
I had a (not so) similar issue on a very old laptop. I ended up taking the entire LCD out and reconnecting the cables and the like. Worked fine afterwards
How did that even happen? Did you try and smash a spider?
Nah, but seriously, I'd say that's pretty boned.
Not much you can do other then run this for a wile and see if it helps some.
It fixed my stuck pixel so you may get lucky. http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php

Besides it's really tripy.
It looks likes some pixels broke and are leaking there fluids.
woke up this morning after leaving it off all night, and the 'spider' has now lost its legs and trail... which gives me some hope it might not be permanent? that said, now i'm starting to see light coming through the screen, like through a tiny split, but it's on the rear of the screen, there's no damage on the front at all.

but i'll try that program and see if it helps!

um, problem with jscreen is that the pop up border means that i struggle to fit any of it over my problem area... which makes it somewhat useless :(

even on full screen there's still a portion of FF left at the top
Best advice I can give is buy a new screen
but it's a laptop :(
update:
so it had shrunk back to the smaller 'spider', and then the laptop was on my bed and i reached the right corner to pull it round towards me (since i was no longer sat on the bed) and i saw it "rip" as i pulled it round... now it looks like this:

now i'm no beast and i know to treat stuff with respect so you can be sure that this was not a harsh tug or whatever, it just slid around on the bed as i would expect it to. apart from getting this even bigger gash. which also leads me to believe that it is a problem behind the screen, because there's no marks on the front but now when i apply gentle pressure to it it's like it's ripped or something. pretty rubbish.
:ohdear:
Looks like it's cracked inside.
Don't fix it, that shit looks awesome
Yeah, your screen is cracked, you need a new one.
