Fresh install on new SSD, windows detects but does not read old HDD

I bought a brand new Samsung 840 PRO 128, as it's all I would need and it's cheaper than the 256 and 512GB drives. My old HDD is an IBM 750GB 7200rpm. I got it used(don't ask) but SMART says it's fine. I wanted to use it as my main storage device, but I can't access it through windows. It shows up in all the Devices and hardware lists, including Speccy. I tried running chkdsk on it, I think it's labeled F: but I'm not positive as it doesn't show up anywhere, and it says it can't access it as the drive is read only. When I put the SSD in I had to mess with the boot order as it would not boot to the SSD, also I had to reinstall windows because I originally installed in IDE mode instead of AHCI mode, anyways, when I put the SSD as the first Hard drive boot option in BIOS and save and exit it comes up saying no boot device and to insert disk/boot device whatever, unless I make the SSD the second drive, behind the old HDD, in the Boot priority order.
I formatted the HDD, maybe I need to put a full size partition on it through the install boot disk(usb stick)?
BTW I've used the HDD for almost 6 months now, and it was working fine with no errors up until I wiped it to re install on the SSD.

In the Devices menu, and under properties, through all the menus and whatnot, the Volume tab is blank, and when I click the Populate button it shows all the information and the size of the disk, but when I click ok to close that window, and then open it back up again, it's blank.

It's only reading the SSD, I'm booted to the SSD right now if I didn't make that clear.

HDD in question, when I click OK and then navigate back to this window it's all blank again.

Windows says the drivers are up to date, I've tried uninstalling drivers and re installing them, but it doesn't change anything.
Does the drive show up in the partition manager? (You can get to this by searching partition in the start menu and clicking the option for editing partitions). You also may need to create a partition on it for it to be seen
Yep that was it, put the install disk back in and created a partition, but I somehow managed to fuck up the bootmgr file so I had to re install windows again, not like I lost anything though. I did run chkdsk through the boot disk before that though, and the HDD checked out fine. Took like 4-5 hours though...
