Funny, I bid on a used one today. A CFW 3DS is nice to have.

Add in a flashcart and you can play any old DS games you have lying around too. Best part is that currently, you can flash CFW on any version, and from what homebrewers say, there's no way to patch the exploit they use
Having a map always visible on the other screen is a very underrated feature, in my opinion. I'll be sad when the 3ds goes.
I think Streetpass and Play Coins contributed a lot to the 3DS being a mainstay in my backpack for years. Their effects on games are pretty negligible but it's always nice to see how many people you could meet and how it contributed to progress in the Streetpass games, which were pretty sweet for the most part. I'd argue if you're not a big gaming person or are a new owner and can't currently afford any games, those could hold you over just fine. The Switch is a very nice machine but I think it's more of a home console with comfy bedtime gaming potential than something you'd bring with you on your daily commute like the 3DS. Also custom Firmware is OP
