Not at all surprised. It looked dull as all hell and of course the visuals (and the music in one particular trailer) are atrocious
Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking with the visuals. It's like they originally wanted to make it look like the SNES game, but then they changed their mind half-way through. Now, it looks like a hybrid between that, and the pre-rendered 3D of Yoshi's Story.

I wouldn't say it's the artstyle itself, although yoshi looks a little muddy.
Might have more to do with the horribly uncharacteristic and bland animating.

mmmmm yeah just listen to that earsplitting nerve-grating tune
I brought it up in the 3DS general thread briefly and I know Mario games aren't known for their story, but did they really have to say the Mario brothers were delivered to the wrong house and thus void the original game's triumphant ending? Could've had them kidnapped from the house, or they'd be out playing and get lost in some hilarious way or another at the very least, but that just craps on the original game.
It's from the guys who made yoshis island DS and the GBA game so no big surprise. They made only 'meh' games so far.

But the GBA version was just a port of the SNES version with higher sound quality and a few extra levels? I remember it being pretty cool.
the music:
