Hey I just got ubuntu 10.04 and have tried many things to get this working but i have failed...
I might be wrong, but I think Beryl is merged with compiz these days. O:
Yeah. Beryl forked from compiz in 2006, but merged back in 2007. Compiz basically does everything beryl does.

He might not have known Beryl is Compiz now and that it is installed by default?
You probably still want to install the Compiz config settings manager.

Again... installed by default in Ubuntu.

No it isn't.

Wow, you are indeed misinformed.
You open Appearance Preferences and go into the Visual Effects tab. Select Custom, and configure Compiz to your liking.

I don't have that option in ubuntu.
Atleast the one I have running here in vbox. which is pretty much not modified.

It's in Linux Mint.
Not Ubuntu.
If you install by DVD it is installed by default in Ubuntu.
If they were smart, they'd install it by default in Ubuntu CD, along with WINE pre-installed.
Ubuntu is a noob distro after all.
WINE is nothing more than a headache for most people.

true, but partial windows app compatibility is better than none, especially for super-noobs that thing windows software will work in ubuntu regardless.

that's where the headache comes for most users.
Why would you add wine, that's just silly.
And CCSM isn't included with Ubuntu, they may install some cut down preference editor but I doubt it.
Ubuntu puts it's own config frontend on Compiz which consists of "Off", "Normal" and "Super lol"
Which sucks if you want to fine tune any window animations or want some additional smooth without fucking bendy windows.
There needs to be a free (gratis) distribution that doesn't constrict itself to GNU and GNU-compatible software. Like it comes with a decent like ZSH or something by default, and has flash and java already installed.
