I currently have a PC with the following specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 Ghz
RAM: 4 GB DDR2 RAM @ 800 MHz
GPU: 1 GB ATI Radeon HD 4890
Motherboard: Asus Benicia
Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3.0Gb/s 500-GB
Power supply: 460W (It's from some unknown brand made specifically for this prebuilt PC.)

I realize most of the parts are quite old and/or from barely known brands, but it still performs quite well and it has to be said I can run Crysis at 1920 x 1200 with most of the settings on high or very high.
However, the processor is quite slow and the DDR2 RAM is also quite outdated. Therefore I want to start building a new PC myself this time instead of buying a prebuilt. My only issue is that I have a fairly small budget (350 euros) and I bought the graphics card only a few months ago.
My idea is to get this case and move my current components over to it. I'm getting a new case, because my old one is way too small and has no room for more powerful components, as expected with a prebuilt PC. The case will cost me about 130 euros, so that leaves 220 euros to buy new components. I know nearly nothing about motherboards, but I think it's a good idea to replace that first, along with a decent AMD processor. After that, when I've made some more money, I would buy DDR3 RAM and an additional 4890 to put them in CrossFire.
Do you think it's a bad idea to start building a new PC by mostly reusing old components and progressively replace them? If not, which components should I replace first?
You sound like you know what you are doing. Only thing you forgot is to get a new PSU since you plan on CrossFiring.
Nothing is slow or unknown. Over clock your CPU to 3.4-3.6 CPU and you are fine
C2Q is still a really good Processor range
Yep your going to need a new PSU and better cpu coolers if you overclock
Open your case and look at your PSU. 460ws is fine really. Just get a Hyper 212+ and over clock that bad boy
